AI Governance and Risk Specialist
This organisation is seeking an AI Governance and Risk Specialist to play a pivotal role in shaping the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence across enterprise platforms. You will be at the forefront of developing and operationalising robust governance frameworks, risk management practices, and control mechanisms that ensure AI solutions are secure, ethical, and aligned with industry standards.
What you'll do:
As an AI Governance and Risk Specialist you will be instrumental in supporting the creation and operationalisation of frameworks that guide responsible use of artificial intelligence within the organisation. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with various technology teams to ensure that all aspects of AI deployment adhere to established guardrails for security, privacy, compliance, and ethical standards. You will assess platform controls across identity management, data protection measures, tenant isolation strategies, encryption protocols, content filtering mechanisms for responsible AI safeguards as well as logging and monitoring capabilities. By translating technical risks into actionable governance requirements you will bridge gaps between technical experts and business stakeholders. Your proactive engagement in risk assessments will help identify vulnerabilities relating to security or compliance while your commitment to continuous improvement ensures that governance processes evolve alongside regulatory changes. Success in this role requires strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across departments as well as a deep understanding of both technical controls and business imperatives driving responsible AI adoption.
- Support the development, enhancement, and operationalisation of comprehensive AI governance frameworks, policies, standards, and control requirements that underpin responsible technology use.
- Provide expert advisory on governance and risk for AI solutions deployed across enterprise platforms with a particular focus on Microsoft and cloud ecosystems.
- Assess platform controls and governance mechanisms such as identity and access management, data protection and privacy requirements, tenant isolation security configurations, encryption protocols, content filtering safeguards, logging capabilities, monitoring systems, and audit trails.
- Partner with technology teams to embed governance-by-design practices throughout the entire AI development and deployment lifecycle ensuring compliance with internal guardrails.
- Conduct thorough AI risk assessments identifying potential risks related to security, compliance obligations, data usage policies, and responsible AI practices.
- Translate complex technical platform capabilities into clear governance requirements and business-friendly recommendations that facilitate understanding across stakeholder groups.
- Collaborate effectively with Data & AI, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and Risk teams to drive successful implementation of AI governance initiatives.
- Stay abreast of emerging regulations in artificial intelligence as well as evolving industry standards, governance frameworks, and best practices for responsible AI.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by refining AI governance processes, controls, operating models based on feedback from stakeholders and regulatory developments.
What you bring:
Your proven experience in roles related to technology risk management or responsible artificial intelligence will be invaluable in this position. You bring a solid educational foundation complemented by hands-on expertise gained through at least five years working within domains such as cloud security or data platform implementation. Your familiarity with enterprise-level platforms—especially those leveraging Microsoft technologies—enables you to navigate complex ecosystems confidently while applying best practice governance controls. You possess a nuanced understanding of how risks manifest within artificial intelligence deployments including issues around privacy protection or ethical safeguards. Your ability to communicate technical concepts clearly ensures that both technical experts and business leaders understand their responsibilities regarding compliance or risk mitigation. Interpersonal skills are central to your approach: you excel at building collaborative relationships across departments fostering trust through honest dialogue. Analytical thinking allows you to identify vulnerabilities quickly while your commitment to continuous learning keeps you updated on regulatory shifts affecting responsible technology use. - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Management or related disciplines is required for this role.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in areas such as AI governance or responsible AI practices; technology risk management; cloud governance; cybersecurity governance; data governance; platform implementation; or technology controls assurance is essential.
- Comprehensive understanding of risks associated with artificial intelligence including responsible AI principles as well as emerging governance practices is expected.
- Familiarity with enterprise-level AI platforms especially those built on cloud architecture or governed by technology frameworks is highly valued.
- Experience working within Microsoft enterprise technology ecosystem including Azure AI services; Microsoft Copilot Studio; M365 Copilot; Power Platform governance capabilities is preferred but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of security controls across platforms such as access management protocols; data protection strategies; monitoring systems; compliance controls is important for success in this position.
- Ability to translate complex technical risks into clear business-friendly recommendations that support effective decision-making among stakeholders is crucial.
- Strong stakeholder management skills enabling you to work collaboratively with both technical specialists and non-technical teams are required.
- Excellent analytical abilities combined with effective communication skills allow you to solve problems efficiently while maintaining clarity across diverse audiences.
