Data Engineer (Snowflakes - Malaysian only!)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Engineer to join a rapidly growing consultancy at a pivotal stage of its expansion into Southeast Asia. This role is based in Kuala Lumpur and offers the chance to work on transformative, high-impact data projects across the APAC region. The organisation stands out for its commitment to humanising data and AI initiatives, ensuring that every project not only delivers technical excellence but also meaningful business outcomes.
What you'll do:
As a Data Engineer in this forward-thinking consultancy, you will immerse yourself in designing and building scalable data pipelines across various cloud platforms while specialising in Snowflake-based solutions. Your day-to-day will involve collaborating with architects, senior consultants, and client-side stakeholders to deliver robust ETL/ELT processes that empower enterprise analytics. You will play a key role in optimising cloud architectures for performance and reliability while ensuring that governance standards are met. By engaging directly with business users across Southeast Asia and APAC, you will help translate complex needs into actionable technical outcomes. Your contributions will extend beyond delivery as you participate in pre-sales activities, share insights during training sessions, and help refine internal practices. Success in this role means not only delivering high-quality technical solutions but also fostering strong connections within a collaborative team environment where learning is continuous.
- Design and construct robust data pipelines across multiple cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP to enable seamless data flow and integration for enterprise clients.
- Develop and optimise advanced data solutions using Snowflake, ensuring they are analytics-ready and tailored to diverse engineering use cases.
- Create comprehensive ETL/ELT processes and sophisticated data models that underpin reliable enterprise analytics and reporting capabilities.
- Enhance performance, scalability, and reliability within complex cloud-based data architectures by applying best practices in design and implementation.
- Engage closely with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions that drive measurable outcomes.
- Contribute actively to initiatives around data governance, quality assurance, and lineage tracking to ensure compliance and transparency throughout the data lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams spanning Australia and the wider APAC region to deliver integrated consulting services that exceed client expectations.
- Support pre-sales activities by participating in technical design sessions and proof-of-concept demonstrations that showcase the value of proposed solutions.
- Participate in ongoing knowledge sharing within the team through guilds, training sessions, and project retrospectives to foster continuous improvement.
- Assist in shaping internal best practices by providing feedback on methodologies and contributing ideas for process enhancements.
What you bring:
To excel as a Data Engineer in this consultancy setting, you will bring proven experience working on complex data engineering projects involving modern cloud technologies. Your background should include significant hands-on work with Snowflake—covering everything from schema design through performance optimisation—and a deep familiarity with ETL/ELT processes supporting enterprise analytics. You will have honed your SQL skills alongside developing sophisticated data models tailored for business intelligence applications. Experience working within consulting frameworks or structured project environments is valuable; however, what truly sets you apart is your ability to communicate clearly across diverse teams while remaining sensitive to stakeholder needs. Your approach is grounded in empathy—valuing collaboration over competition—and you thrive when sharing knowledge or mentoring others. Adaptability is key: you are comfortable navigating fast-evolving project landscapes while upholding high standards of quality. Above all else, your passion for building meaningful solutions shines through in every interaction.
- A minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in hands-on data engineering roles within consulting or enterprise environments is highly desirable for this position.
- Demonstrated expertise with Snowflake is essential—including schema design, performance tuning techniques, warehousing best practices, and solution optimisation.
- Proven ability to develop robust ETL/ELT workflows using modern tools that support large-scale analytics initiatives across multiple domains.
- Solid understanding of SQL programming as well as experience with dimensional or domain-driven data modelling approaches relevant to contemporary analytics stacks.
- Familiarity with deploying solutions on major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including managing multi-cloud environments.
- Experience operating effectively within structured consulting engagements—delivering independently while maintaining alignment with agreed standards and timelines.
- Excellent communication skills enabling you to collaborate empathetically with both technical colleagues and non-technical business stakeholders across regions.
- A track record of contributing positively to team knowledge sharing through participation in training sessions or internal communities of practice.
- A consultative mindset combined with problem-solving abilities that allow you to navigate ambiguity while remaining responsive to evolving client needs.
