Data Architect (Malaysian only!)
A leading organisation in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a highly skilled Data Architect to shape and govern the enterprise data landscape. This role offers you the opportunity to design scalable, secure, and modern data platforms that drive digital transformation and business growth. You will be at the heart of strategic decision-making, collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders to ensure data solutions are robust, compliant, and aligned with organisational objectives.
What you'll do:
As a Data Architect based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s approach to enterprise data management. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve designing robust architecture standards that guide all aspects of data strategy—from modelling through governance—while developing scalable platforms that support both operational excellence and innovation. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including business stakeholders, engineers, analytics professionals, solution architects, and technology leaders. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of modern cloud technologies as well as strong interpersonal skills to influence decisions across multiple domains. By establishing governance frameworks and championing best practices in metadata management, lineage tracking, master data management, and quality assurance, you will ensure compliance with security regulations while fostering a culture of stewardship. Your expertise will be instrumental in supporting digital transformation initiatives through cloud migration projects and by architecting solutions that meet both current needs and future ambitions.
- Define and maintain comprehensive enterprise-wide data architecture standards and principles that underpin all data-related initiatives within the organisation.
- Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models to ensure consistency, scalability, and reliability across all business units.
- Develop target-state architecture and detailed data roadmaps that are closely aligned with evolving business objectives and digital transformation strategies.
- Establish robust governance frameworks and best practices for data management to promote stewardship, ownership, and compliance throughout the organisation.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, platforms, and tools to recommend optimal solutions for current and future data needs.
- Design and oversee modern data platforms including Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and Lakehouse architectures to support both batch and real-time processing requirements.
- Define patterns for data ingestion, storage, transformation, and consumption that enable seamless integration across cloud-based environments.
- Architect scalable batch and real-time data processing solutions that facilitate efficient analytics and reporting capabilities.
- Support cloud migration initiatives by modernising legacy systems and ensuring smooth transitions to advanced cloud platforms.
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand their data requirements while providing architectural guidance to project teams and reviewing solution designs for alignment with enterprise standards.
What you bring:
To excel as a Data Architect in this organisation you will bring extensive experience gained from working on large-scale enterprise projects involving complex architectures. Your background should demonstrate proficiency not only in technical areas such as modelling techniques (conceptual/logical/physical), SQL programming languages or database design but also practical exposure to cloud platforms like Azure or AWS. Familiarity with cutting-edge technologies such as Databricks or Snowflake is highly valued alongside proven ability to lead migration efforts from legacy systems. Beyond technical prowess you must possess strong interpersonal skills—enabling you to connect effectively with stakeholders at all levels—and strategic thinking capabilities that allow you to align architectural decisions with broader organisational goals. Your commitment to governance frameworks ensures compliance while your collaborative approach fosters knowledge sharing among team members. Experience influencing decisions across multiple domains is essential; your empathy-driven communication style helps build trust within project teams while nurturing a culture of stewardship around enterprise data assets.
- Extensive experience (8+ years) in Data Engineering, Data Architecture or Analytics Architecture roles within large enterprise environments.
- Proven track record of designing enterprise-scale data platforms that are secure, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
- Strong knowledge of conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling techniques applied across diverse business domains.
- Expertise in SQL programming as well as database design principles for both traditional relational databases and modern cloud-based systems.
- Hands-on experience with leading cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP including migration projects from legacy systems.
- Practical familiarity with modern data technologies including Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Snowflake, SAP Datasphere, BigQuery or Redshift.
- Deep understanding of ETL/ELT architecture patterns along with proficiency in integrating disparate sources using industry-standard frameworks.
- Comprehensive knowledge of data governance methodologies including metadata management tools and practices for ensuring high-quality datasets.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills enabling effective communication between technical teams and business leaders.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions while influencing architecture decisions across cross-functional teams.
