Quality Manager – Fresh Produce Industry

What You’ll Do
As the Quality Manager, you will be at the forefront of maintaining and enhancing product quality across the supply chain. Your key responsibilities include:
- Managing quality control processes from farm sourcing through grading, packing, storage, and distribution.
- Defining and enforcing grading standards, ripeness criteria, size, color, texture, and shelf-life specifications.
- Conducting inspections of incoming and outgoing products to ensure consistency with quality benchmarks.
- Monitoring post-harvest handling processes to minimize spoilage, damage, and degradation of freshness.
- Collaborating with procurement teams to assess supplier/farm quality performance.
- Investigating quality deviations such as bruising, decay, or ripeness issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Establishing quality checkpoints across logistics and cold chain handling processes.
- Leading root cause analysis for quality failures and driving improvement initiatives with suppliers and operations teams.
- Maintaining detailed records of inspections, product acceptance/rejection documentation, and quality reports.
What You’ll Bring
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- A degree in Food Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in fresh produce quality management or agricultural quality control.
- Expertise in:
- Fruit/vegetable grading and classification.
- Ripeness assessment and shelf-life evaluation.
- Post-harvest handling techniques.
- Cold chain management and its impact on product quality.
- Supplier/farm quality evaluation processes.
- Strong observational skills for sensory evaluations (appearance, firmness, color, defects).
- The ability to make quick decisions in a high-volume, fast-moving environment.
- Knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP, ISO) is advantageous but secondary to product quality expertise.
