Sales Director (EMS)

Save job

A leading manufacturing and production organisation in Penang is seeking a Sales Director (EMS) to spearhead business development and drive revenue growth through strategic customer engagement and technical sales expertise.

This role offers you the chance to build robust relationships with both internal teams and external clients, ensuring seamless communication and exceptional customer experiences throughout the sales cycle. You will be empowered to shape the company’s market presence by identifying new opportunities, negotiating complex deals, and collaborating across departments to deliver tailored solutions. The organisation prides itself on a supportive culture that values accountability, innovation, and flexibility, including hybrid working arrangements and comprehensive medical benefits. If you are passionate about connecting customers to emerging technologies and thrive in environments where your input is valued, this is an outstanding opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

What you'll do:

As Sales Director (EMS) based in Penang, you will immerse yourself in the organisation’s mission and operational procedures from day one. Your daily activities will involve connecting with various departments—engineering, operations, supply chain—to learn best practices for collaboration. You will attend onboarding sessions and safety training before quickly moving into relationship-building with colleagues and customers alike. By leveraging your technical sales expertise and industry knowledge, you will generate leads through referrals or research into new markets. You’ll participate in weekly meetings to refine your understanding of the sales process while shadowing experienced managers on manufacturing floor tours. As you progress beyond initial training periods, you’ll independently manage customer accounts—negotiating purchase orders, creating proposals with cost breakdowns—and ensure seamless handoff to production teams. Your role will also include attending trade shows to identify opportunities for expansion while contributing ideas at quarterly meetings. Success means consistently converting leads into high-value sales by presenting innovative solutions that address client needs within organisational boundaries. You’ll be expected to maintain clear communication channels internally and externally while proactively supporting team members’ learning experiences.

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by developing a robust customer pipeline across diverse markets such as Renewable Energy, Semiconductors, Robotics, Industrial Equipment, and Life Sciences.
  • Lead the entire sales cycle from lead generation through purchase order negotiation to production handoff, ensuring all documentation aligns with organisational standards.
  • Build strong relationships with customers by understanding their needs, providing tailored solutions, and managing expectations against the company’s capabilities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with General Manager, COO, Operations Team, Program Managers, Supply Chain Department, and Marketing/Customer Operations to develop effective sales strategies.
  • Generate accurate quotes by analysing risks and negotiating terms that balance customer requirements with production capabilities.
  • Create custom marketing collateral and technical blogs in partnership with the marketing department to promote products and services effectively.
  • Attend structured onboarding sessions, safety training, weekly meetings, trade shows, quarterly All-Hands meetings, and actively contribute feedback during pipeline discussions.
  • Manage current customers independently after initial supervision period; schedule tours of the manufacturing floor for potential clients to showcase production processes.
  • Convert leads into purchase orders by recognising opportunities for advanced custom solutions that align with client needs and internal resources.
  • Present creative strategic plans for prospecting new customers to senior leadership while setting up detailed sales plans with timelines, goals, and deadlines.

What you bring:

Your background as Sales Director (EMS) should demonstrate substantial experience in technical sales—ideally within equipment manufacturing or related industries—where you have successfully managed complex customer pipelines from lead generation through production handoff. You bring not only academic qualifications but also practical expertise using tools like Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce for documentation management. Your interpersonal skills allow you to build trust quickly among colleagues from diverse departments as well as external clients who may require guidance navigating technical concepts. You excel at organising resources strategically while maintaining compliance with safety protocols. Your approach is empathetic yet firm when negotiating boundaries between what customers want versus what can realistically be delivered. You are comfortable creating marketing materials or contributing thought leadership via technical blogs that elevate brand visibility. Above all else, your commitment to continuous improvement ensures you set measurable goals aligned with broader business objectives—making you an invaluable asset capable of driving impactful change.

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Engineering or related field is required for this position.
  • At least 5 years’ proven experience in technical sales within the equipment market is preferred; advanced understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on small teams as well as independently when managing customer accounts or executing sales plans.
  • Exceptional time management skills combined with strong organisational abilities are necessary for balancing multiple priorities across departments.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills are crucial for conveying complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Compliance with company policies and safety regulations is mandatory throughout all aspects of the role.
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships by investing time in rapport-building and establishing trust with colleagues and clients alike.
  • Strategic mindset paired with creative thinking enables you to negotiate win-win solutions when misalignments arise between customer expectations and organisational capabilities.
  • Experience in developing custom marketing collateral or technical blogs is advantageous for promoting products/services within target markets.
  • Proven track record of setting SMART goals based on performance metrics such as lead generation rates, conversion rates, and market penetration.
