What you'll do:
As National Sales Manager for General Trade in Malaysia, you will be entrusted with shaping the commercial landscape across multiple sales channels. - Translate overarching channel strategies into clear, actionable regional execution plans that align with annual commercial objectives.
- Drive regional performance by monitoring revenue, volume, market share, and gross margin metrics while maintaining strong ownership of profit and loss outcomes.
- Lead distributor management efforts to ensure execution excellence, high service levels, and alignment with broader business goals across all relevant channels.
- Champion in-market execution standards by overseeing product availability, visibility initiatives, promotional activities, and outlet expansion projects.
- Manage trade investment budgets and regional sales expenditures with a disciplined approach focused on maximising return on investment.
- Generate comprehensive market intelligence reports and provide actionable insights to refine strategies and address any performance gaps identified within the region.
- Coach, mentor, and develop Area Sales Managers as well as field teams to foster a high-performance culture rooted in accountability and shared success.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of commercial plans with marketing, supply chain, and finance functions.
- Establish robust stakeholder relationships both internally and externally to facilitate smooth operations and mutual understanding of business priorities.
What you bring:
To excel as National Sales Manager for General Trade, you will bring extensive experience from senior roles within the FMCG industry particularly those involving oversight of multi-channel sales operations. Your background should reflect deep familiarity with distributor management practices as well as an ability to navigate the complexities of both modern retail formats and traditional trade environments. A solid academic foundation underpins your practical expertise in areas such as commercial planning and financial stewardship. Your interpersonal strengths are evident not only in how you coach direct reports but also in your capacity to build trust-based relationships with stakeholders at all levels. - Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Commerce or a related discipline is required for this position.
- A minimum of 15 years’ experience within the fast-moving consumer goods industry is essential, including at least 10 years spent in managerial leadership roles overseeing large sales teams.
- Demonstrated expertise managing distributors as well as multi-channel Off-Trade environments encompassing Modern Trade, General Trade, and wholesaler landscapes.
- Comprehensive understanding of market dynamics specific to FMCG sectors within Malaysia or similar markets is highly desirable.
- Proven track record in commercial planning processes including profit & loss management and optimisation of trade investments for maximum efficiency.
- Exceptional analytical skills combined with strategic thinking capabilities that enable you to translate complex data into practical execution plans.
- Outstanding leadership qualities with a focus on coaching others; adept at fostering inclusive cultures built around accountability and shared achievement.
- Excellent stakeholder management abilities supported by strong communication skills that facilitate effective collaboration across diverse groups.
