Compliance Counsel (Data Privacy)
A leading organisation is seeking a Compliance Counsel to champion its data protection and corporate compliance programmes. This role offers you the opportunity to shape the company’s approach to regulatory adherence, business ethics, and data privacy across diverse operations including manufacturing, retail and supply chain. You will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with the PDPA, managing cross-border data transfers, and driving anti-bribery and fraud prevention initiatives.
What you'll do:
As Compliance Counsel , you will be at the forefront of protecting both personal and operational data while ensuring the company’s activities remain compliant with evolving regulations.
- Ensure full compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and other relevant data protection laws across all business units by developing, implementing, and maintaining effective policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), maintain accurate Records of Processing Activities (RoPA), and ensure proper documentation for all data processing activities within the organisation.
- Develop incident response plans for potential data breaches, guaranteeing timely reporting and adherence to PDPA regulations while minimising organisational risk.
- Oversee cross-border data transfer compliance by establishing appropriate safeguards for lawful movement of personal information between jurisdictions.
- Manage the broader company data compliance programme by creating internal policies for data classification, retention, access control, and disposal that align with industry standards.
- Perform audits to verify that customer, employee, and operational data are handled according to internal policies as well as external legal requirements.
- Advise various departments—including manufacturing, retail sales, and IT—on emerging compliance issues related to data management and regulatory changes.
- Lead the company’s anti-bribery, fraud prevention, conflicts of interest, and business ethics initiatives by developing and enforcing relevant policies.
- Monitor ongoing operations to ensure consistent adherence to local and international regulations across all business functions.
- Design and deliver engaging training sessions on PDPA compliance, anti-bribery practices, fraud prevention strategies, and other key topics to raise awareness throughout the organisation.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for Compliance Counsel brings substantial experience from roles involving regulatory oversight within automotive, manufacturing or retail industries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Compliance or a related field is required for this position.
- At least 5 years’ & above, experience developing and managing compliance programmes including PDPA implementation and company-wide policy creation ideally within automotive, manufacturing or retail sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant data protection laws such as PDPA as well as cross-border data transfer regulations is essential for success in this role.
- Proven ability to manage standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, governance frameworks while adapting them for different business functions.
- Exceptional communication skills enabling you to engage effectively with employees at all levels during training sessions or when advising on compliance matters.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities combined with strong interpersonal abilities that foster collaboration within teams across departments.
- Ability to work independently while also thriving in cooperative environments where teamwork is valued.
- Proactive mindset capable of multitasking efficiently; proposing new initiatives or solutions when faced with complex challenges.
