What you'll do:

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a central role in shaping the legal landscape of the organisation’s operations in Malaysia and Singapore.

• Promote, coordinate, and monitor data privacy compliance initiatives throughout the organisation by partnering with internal teams at all levels.
• Support the rollout of data privacy programmes from regional and global offices by adapting them to local requirements and ensuring seamless integration.
• Conduct regular assessments of ongoing projects and programmes within the entity to identify gaps and allocate resources for remediation.
• Deliver engaging training sessions on data privacy policies and procedures to various departments including IT, Digital, Retail, Marketing, Operations, and HR.
• Perform Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects and initiatives to ensure risks are identified early and mitigated effectively.
• Coordinate responses to data privacy-related issues by collaborating with relevant stakeholders across the business.
• Monitor compliance through periodic audits, maintenance of data registers, contract reviews, consent management processes, and handling data subject requests.
• Lead strategic topics under the risk and compliance portfolio by providing guidance on regulatory evolutions and risk exposure to the Management Committee.
• Provide practical advice on structuring commercial activities to ensure business compliance with local laws and regulations.
• Train and mentor Data Privacy Champions within the entity while facilitating legal and compliance trainings for wider teams.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for Senior Legal Counsel brings a wealth of proven experience in legal compliance across Malaysia or Singapore’s regulatory landscape.

• A qualified lawyer with at least 8-12 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE), ideally gained within Malaysia or Singapore.
• Extensive experience managing legal compliance matters related to data privacy, technology law, digital/e-commerce regulations, and information technology practices.
• Proven ability to coordinate among key stakeholders while building dependable relationships across multiple organisational levels.
• Strategic project management skills focused on timely delivery of complex legal initiatives within fast-evolving environments.
• Comfortable engaging with senior management teams by providing clear advice on regulatory changes and risk exposure.
• Exceptional analytical skills paired with high attention to detail when reviewing contracts or conducting impact assessments.
• Growth-oriented mindset open to exploring creative ways of working including embracing legal tech solutions in daily operations.
