What you'll do:

As Business Manager Surgical, you will play an integral role in shaping the future of the surgical medical device business across Malaysia and Brunei. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve translating strategic plans into clear objectives for your team while fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and shared success. You will work closely with both internal colleagues—such as Sales Managers, Sales Executives, Commercial partners—and external stakeholders including distributors and healthcare professionals. By focusing on relationship-building, compliance adherence, market insight gathering, and hands-on leadership, you will ensure that every aspect of the business runs smoothly. Your ability to inspire others while delivering measurable outcomes will be central to your success in this rewarding position.

  • Translate the annual business plan into actionable goals for your team, ensuring clarity of purpose and alignment with broader organisational objectives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow market share and enhance category performance within Malaysia and Brunei’s surgical medical device sector.
  • Lead, nurture, and support a team of 4–7 direct reports—including Sales Managers and Sales Executives—by providing regular coaching, feedback, and guidance.
  • Oversee sales and marketing activities from initial strategy through to successful execution on the ground, ensuring all initiatives are aligned with business priorities.
  • Manage distributor relationships by monitoring performance metrics, providing constructive feedback, and elevating go-to-market execution in selected markets.
  • Cultivate strong connections with key accounts and healthcare professionals through regular business reviews, trust-building interactions, and responsive service.
  • Collaborate closely with Commercial and Marketing teams to co-create impactful campaigns, pricing strategies, sales processes, and promotional activities.
  • Ensure all business operations adhere strictly to healthcare regulations and ethical selling standards while maintaining robust growth trajectories.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to inform decision-making and adapt strategies as required.
  • Travel as needed across Malaysia and Brunei to support team members, engage stakeholders, and oversee critical business activities.

What you bring:

To excel as Business Manager Surgical you will bring substantial experience from the medical device industry—ideally within surgical or hospital-facing roles—alongside a history of surpassing targets through effective territory or category management. Your background should include not only technical product knowledge but also an empathetic approach to relationship-building with both customers and colleagues. You are adept at supporting others’ growth through mentoring or coaching while remaining highly dependable when it comes to delivering on commitments. Your interpersonal skills allow you to connect authentically with diverse stakeholders; your collaborative mindset ensures seamless teamwork across functions; your attention to detail guarantees compliance without sacrificing progress. A willingness to travel demonstrates your commitment to being present where it matters most.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification demonstrating your academic foundation for this complex role.
  • 8–10 years’ experience in medical device sales with significant exposure to surgical or hospital-facing environments preferred.
  • Proven track record of consistently achieving targets while growing territories or categories within the healthcare sector.
  • Demonstrated strength in business development—opening new doors, building robust pipelines, expanding existing accounts—and nurturing long-term partnerships.
  • Experience managing or coaching teams; you enjoy developing talent through supportive leadership practices.
  • Comfortable collaborating cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Commercial teams as well as distributors and senior leaders to achieve shared goals.
  • Excellent communication skills enabling you to present ideas clearly, negotiate effectively, build trust with senior partners, and foster positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout Malaysia and Brunei as required by business needs.
