Save job

A new Head of Store Development/Property has just been made available with an international retailer expanding here in Malaysia.

A leading retailer in Malaysia is seeking a Head of Property to oversee all property and real estate matters, including expansion, fitout, project management, and lease renewals. This role offers the unique opportunity to shape the future of retail spaces across the country, working within a supportive and collaborative environment that values your expertise and commitment. You will be joining an organisation with a strong presence nationwide, backed by a multinational network, where your contributions will directly impact business growth and customer experience. Flexible working opportunities, generous training programmes, and a culture of knowledge sharing make this position ideal for those looking to advance their career in property management while enjoying a nurturing and inclusive workplace.

  • Take charge of all property and real estate operations for a major retailer with more than 50 stores nationwide, ensuring seamless expansion and store development.
  • Enjoy flexible working opportunities and access to comprehensive training programmes designed to support your professional growth and enhance your skills.
  • Be part of a supportive team environment where collaboration, knowledge sharing, and inclusive leadership are at the heart of every project.

What you'll do:

As Head of Property based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the physical footprint of one of Malaysia’s most prominent retailers. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve overseeing the full spectrum of property management activities—from identifying new sites for store expansion to managing fitout projects that create inviting retail environments. You will work closely with various departments to ensure each project aligns with broader business goals while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance. Success in this role requires you to build strong relationships with stakeholders both inside and outside the organisation, negotiate lease terms that benefit the business, monitor market developments for strategic advantage, and provide insightful reporting to guide decision-making. Your ability to collaborate effectively across teams will be essential as you drive initiatives that enhance customer experience and support sustainable growth.

  • Oversee the entire portfolio of retail properties across Malaysia, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with business objectives.
  • Manage all aspects of store expansion projects, from site selection through to completion, collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners.
  • Lead fitout initiatives for new and existing stores, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate lease renewals and negotiations with landlords to secure favourable terms that support long-term business sustainability.
  • Develop strategic plans for property acquisition, disposal, and redevelopment in line with organisational growth targets.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including operations, finance, legal, and marketing to deliver successful property projects.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to identify opportunities for expansion or improvement within the retail property portfolio.
  • Ensure all property-related activities adhere to company policies as well as local laws and regulations.
  • Establish strong relationships with contractors, consultants, government agencies, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Prepare regular reports on property performance, project progress, risks, and recommendations for senior management review.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for Head of Property will bring substantial experience from the retail or real estate sectors—particularly in managing diverse portfolios across multiple locations. Your proven expertise in handling expansion projects from inception through completion will be complemented by your ability to coordinate fitouts that meet both operational needs and customer expectations. You should possess strong analytical skills for evaluating market conditions alongside excellent communication abilities for engaging stakeholders at all levels. A deep understanding of relevant regulations ensures compliance throughout every stage of property development or leasing. Your collaborative approach will help foster positive relationships within cross-functional teams while your adaptability enables you to navigate shifting priorities smoothly. Above all else, your commitment to creating an inclusive environment where knowledge is shared freely will set you apart as a valuable leader within this organisation.

  • Extensive experience in property management or real estate within the retail sector is highly desirable for this role.
  • Proven track record in managing large-scale expansion projects including site selection, fitout coordination, and lease negotiations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills enabling you to build collaborative relationships with internal teams as well as external partners such as landlords and contractors.
  • Excellent communication abilities allowing you to present complex information clearly to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Sound understanding of local laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to property acquisition, development, leasing, and compliance.
  • Analytical mindset capable of interpreting market trends and data to inform strategic decisions regarding property portfolio optimisation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in preparing detailed reports on property performance metrics for executive review is advantageous.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace culture where teamwork and knowledge sharing are valued.
  • Adaptability in responding positively to changing priorities or unexpected challenges during project delivery.
