What you'll do:
As a Senior New Product Introduction Test Development Engineer based in Penang, Malaysia, you will be entrusted with end-to-end responsibility for developing rigorous test solutions that transform innovative concepts into reliable products ready for high-volume manufacturing. Your day-to-day work will involve collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate hardware and software modules into unified ATE systems. You will architect validation strategies that ensure every aspect of the design meets stringent industry standards. By leveraging your deep understanding of electronic systems, you will tackle challenging debugging scenarios—analysing failures at both module and system levels—and develop sophisticated calibration routines that underpin measurement precision. Your analytical approach will be essential as you interpret test data trends to drive continuous improvements. - Lead comprehensive test development activities for new products throughout all phases from initial concept to final production release, ensuring seamless transitions between each stage.
- Drive system-level integration efforts by coordinating hardware, firmware, and software layers to achieve cohesive operation within complex ATE environments.
- Define robust test architectures as well as coverage and validation strategies that guarantee product reliability and performance under real-world conditions.
- Perform detailed hardware and system-level debugging tasks including failure analysis and root cause identification to resolve intricate technical issues efficiently.
- Develop and optimise test algorithms along with test flows using established ATE software frameworks to enhance testing accuracy and throughput.
- Design calibration methodologies and automation software that enable precise and repeatable system calibration across multiple platforms.
- Analyse large sets of test data to identify performance gaps or inconsistencies and implement corrective improvements that elevate overall system quality.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, Applications Engineering, and Production teams during NPI phases and ramp-up periods to ensure alignment on technical objectives.
- Mentor junior engineers by guiding them through technical problem-solving approaches while fostering a culture of shared learning.
- Support ongoing sustaining activities by addressing production issues related to system integration or test coverage promptly.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Communications Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent qualification is required for this position.
- At least five years’ experience in test development engineering (NPI), product engineering or system integration roles within the semiconductor or ATE sector is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated proficiency in debugging complex electronic systems encompassing analog, digital, mixed-signal domains is essential for success in this role.
- Hands-on familiarity with test and measurement instruments such as Digital Multimeters (DMM), Oscilloscopes, Source Measure Units (SMU), Network Analyzers, Arbitrary Waveform Generators (AWG), among others is expected.
- Solid understanding of system-level behaviours including timing synchronisation, noise management, grounding principles and thermal effects is important for effective troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in C# or C++ programming languages with proven ability to develop and maintain robust test software applications is necessary.
- Exceptional analytical thinking skills combined with structured approaches to problem-solving are vital for navigating complex engineering challenges.
- Excellent communication skills enabling you to lead technical discussions clearly across multidisciplinary teams are required.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or supporting team-based learning initiatives would be advantageous.
