You’ll thrive in a vibrant, supportive team that champions collaboration, celebrates knowledge sharing, and is passionate about continuous learning. Here, your expertise will be valued every day as you transform creative ideas into precise fabrication drawings, all while enjoying a workplace that truly invests in your professional growth. If you’re energised by mechanical engineering, love working closely with talented colleagues, and are eager to make a real difference in manufacturing excellence and product quality, this is the perfect stage for your talents to shine.

  • Play a pivotal role at the forefront of product innovation by transforming 3D models and design concepts into detailed fabrication drawings that power efficient manufacturing.
  • Join a lively, collaborative team where your meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality will ensure every drawing meets both company and international standards like ISO and ASME.
  • Benefit from ongoing professional development opportunities as you support engineering change requests, manage essential documentation, and drive process improvements within an inspiring R&D environment.

What you'll do:

As a R&D Mechanical Engineer based in Penang, you’ll be at the heart of turning bold design visions into practical manufacturing realities. Your days will be filled with close collaboration across multidisciplinary teams as you bring creative concepts to life through expertly crafted fabrication drawings. You’ll take pride in preparing detailed 2D documentation from intricate 3D CAD models—ensuring every specification is perfectly recorded for smooth production. By keeping records up-to-date through diligent document control systems, you’ll play a key role in safeguarding engineering data across exciting projects. Your knack for clear communication will help bridge any gaps between engineering, production, and supply chain teams as you clarify requirements or resolve ambiguities. Alongside supporting ongoing engineering changes with prompt updates to documents, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to suggest improvements that make manufacturing even more efficient. Success here means being detail-oriented, highly organised, and always ready to collaborate within a team that’s dedicated to delivering outstanding products together.

  • Create comprehensive fabrication drawings from 3D models and design inputs provided by engineers or designers, ensuring every technical detail is captured with precision.
  • Prepare clear and accurate 2D drawings that include all necessary dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, surface finishes, and critical notes for seamless manufacturing.
  • Interpret complex design files with care to guarantee clarity, completeness, manufacturability, and alignment with project goals.
  • Maintain and update existing drawing sets by following robust revision control procedures and managing documentation efficiently for full traceability.
  • Ensure all drawings strictly comply with internal company standards as well as recognised industry benchmarks such as ISO and ASME guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, production teams, and external suppliers to clarify technical details or resolve any queries related to fabrication drawings.
  • Support engineering change requests (ECR/ECO) by swiftly updating relevant drawings and associated documentation in line with project timelines.
  • Organise, manage, and archive drawing files systematically so that versioning is always clear and retrieval is effortless throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Contribute enthusiastically to the continuous improvement of drafting practices by suggesting enhancements that boost manufacturability or streamline documentation workflows.

What you bring:

To flourish as a R&D Mechanical Engineer in this role, you’ll bring hands-on experience from previous positions involving mechanical drafting or engineering support within thriving manufacturing environments. Your background should highlight technical mastery of industry-standard CAD tools along with an appreciation for how detailed drawings underpin successful product launches. You excel at interpreting intricate specifications while maintaining unwavering accuracy—qualities that empower you to produce reliable documentation even when juggling multiple priorities. Your familiarity with diverse fabrication techniques means you can anticipate challenges before they arise during production planning. Just as important are your interpersonal skills: your ability to communicate openly and work harmoniously across departments helps create an inclusive atmosphere where everyone’s contributions matter. A proactive attitude towards learning new systems or suggesting process enhancements further sets you apart as someone who cares deeply about both personal growth and collective achievement. Whether updating legacy documents or supporting new product introductions through careful record-keeping, your dependability makes you an invaluable part of any R&D team.

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or a closely related field showcasing strong foundational technical knowledge.
  • Two to five years of hands-on experience in mechanical drafting or similar roles within an engineering or manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency using leading CAD software packages such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor or equivalent tools for creating detailed engineering drawings.
  • Deep understanding of interpreting engineering drawings including geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) principles alongside core manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with various fabrication methods such as machining, sheet metal work, injection moulding or other modern manufacturing techniques.
  • Exceptional attention to detail paired with the ability to deliver precise work under tight deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Basic knowledge of document control systems including revision management protocols essential for accurate record-keeping over time.
  • Experience working within manufacturing or product development environments where cross-functional teamwork is highly valued is considered advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems would be beneficial for handling complex documentation workflows.
  • Ability to suggest incremental design improvements aimed at enhancing manufacturability (Design for Manufacturing/DFM) is highly regarded; exposure to PCB/mechanical integration drawings is an added plus.
