What you'll do:
As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer based in Pulau Indah, you will be responsible for coordinating a skilled team of technicians and operators to achieve operational targets while maintaining machinery at peak performance. Your role will involve overseeing production processes within the chilled plant—ensuring compliance with food safety regulations such as ISO 22000 and HACCP—and actively participating in internal/external audits. You will allocate resources efficiently to meet production demands, monitor product quality standards, implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce downtime, manage spare parts inventory systems, troubleshoot mechanical issues independently, and collaborate with cross-functional teams on continuous improvement projects. Additionally, you will mentor staff through training programmes designed for skill enhancement while ensuring workplace safety procedures are strictly followed according to environmental management standards. Your daily responsibilities will also include engaging team members for people development purposes as well as cost optimisation activities through Kaizen or other quality improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate, manage, and guide a group of technicians and operators to achieve section objectives, KPIs, and company goals through collaborative teamwork.
- Set up, ensure, and maintain machinery in optimal working condition using autonomous and preventive maintenance systems to maximise productivity.
- Oversee production activities during assigned shifts to ensure adherence to quality specifications, regulatory standards, and production plans.
- Assist management in all operational activities within the chilled plant (evaporated and condensed milk), supporting both day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.
- Maintain Food Safety Management System (FSMS) compliance by implementing ISO 22000, HACCP, FSSC requirements, including documentation, audits, hygiene practices, and good housekeeping.
- Monitor product quality standards and regulatory requirements while allocating manpower efficiently to meet production demands.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimise downtime, improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and manage spare parts inventory for seamless operations.
- Lead teams in identifying inefficiencies or bottlenecks through feedback collection from shift operations; drive continuous improvement strategies with cross-functional collaboration.
- Mentor staff by identifying training needs and developing programmes that enhance skills and knowledge across the team.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety procedures, environmental management systems (ISO 14001), industrial effluent treatment system discharge protocols, waste management practices, and SHE compliance.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer position will bring substantial experience from the food & beverage or dairies manufacturing sector—particularly with hands-on involvement in filling/packing operations such as seaming & filling processes. Your technical expertise should encompass TPM/OEE/AM/PM methodologies alongside analytical tools like fish bone or YY analysis. You will have demonstrated success supervising production shifts while ensuring compliance with stringent regulatory standards including ISO 22000/HACCP/FSSC/ISO 14001. Your interpersonal abilities will enable you to mentor staff effectively by identifying training needs and developing tailored programmes that promote knowledge sharing across teams. Experience managing spare part inventories—tracking usage/replenishment—and coordinating supplier tasks is essential. You should be adept at leading cross-functional teams on continuous improvement projects aimed at optimising efficiency within production environments. A commitment to maintaining hygiene standards/good housekeeping/safety procedures/environmental protocols is vital along with strong communication skills for audit participation/documentation preparation. Your dependable nature will shine through when engaging subordinates/team members for people development/cost optimisation/quality improvement activities.
- Proven experience in mechanical engineering within the food & beverage or dairies manufacturing industry with specific expertise in filling and packing operations.
- Hands-on proficiency in seaming & filling processes including can/lid making, pouch liquid vertical filling techniques, double seam setting/tuning.
- Comprehensive understanding of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Autonomous Maintenance (AM), Preventive Maintenance (PM), fish bone analysis, YY analysis methodologies.
- Ability to supervise production activities effectively during shifts while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as ISO 22000/HACCP/FSSC/ISO 14001.
- Strong interpersonal skills for mentoring staff members; identifying training needs; developing programmes that foster knowledge sharing across teams.
- Experience managing spare part inventories; tracking usage/replenishment; coordinating with suppliers for timely delivery of components/tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at eliminating inefficiencies or bottlenecks within production environments.
- Commitment to maintaining personal hygiene standards; good housekeeping practices; safety procedures; environmental management protocols including industrial effluent treatment system discharge/waste management.
