Cable Technician (Data Centre)

Save job

A leading organisation in the technology infrastructure sector is seeking a Cable Technician for their data centre operations in Kulai, Johor. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to become part of a supportive team that values collaboration, safety, and professional growth. The role offers hands-on experience with both copper and fibre cable installations, providing you with the chance to develop your technical expertise in a state-of-the-art environment.

What you'll do:

As a Cable Technician Data Centre based in Kulai, Johor, you will play an integral role in supporting the seamless operation of critical infrastructure. Your day-to-day activities will involve installing copper and fibre cables with precision, following established routes within trays and cabinets. You will be responsible for assisting with terminations, applying accurate labelling systems, conducting thorough self-checks or peer reviews before testing begins, and supporting test teams by preparing links for verification. Maintaining tool control and upholding safety standards will be essential as you navigate busy workspaces using ladders or lifts. Success in this role requires excellent communication skills for effective teamwork, a keen eye for detail when handling delicate components, and a proactive approach to escalating any issues encountered during installations. By contributing your technical abilities within a collaborative setting, you will help ensure the reliability of vital data centre operations while developing valuable skills for future advancement.

  • Pull, route, and dress copper and fibre cables in trays and cabinets while strictly adhering to defined routes and workmanship standards to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Assist with termination tasks and enclosure work as assigned by supervisors, always maintaining correct bend radius and proper slack storage for all cables handled.
  • Apply accurate labels according to provided instructions and actively participate in self-checks or peer checks to confirm correctness before any testing procedures commence.
  • Support test teams by preparing links through cleaning connectors, verifying endpoints, and performing remediation tasks as directed by senior staff members.
  • Maintain strict tool control protocols, uphold housekeeping standards, and consistently practise safe work habits when using ladders or lifts in congested areas.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues to ensure smooth workflow across all stages of cable installation projects within the data centre environment.
  • Escalate any issues or concerns promptly to supervisors or project leads to prevent delays or complications during installation processes.
  • Demonstrate careful attention when handling cables and connectors to avoid damage and maintain system integrity throughout all phases of work.
  • Contribute positively to a team-oriented atmosphere by communicating effectively with peers and supporting shared goals for project success.

What you bring:

To excel as a Cable Technician Data Centre in Kulai, Johor, you should bring proven hands-on experience working with both copper and fibre cabling installations within complex environments such as data halls. Your background should include proficiency with standard installation tools as well as an understanding of cable identification techniques that promote efficient routing while minimising risk of damage. A meticulous approach is essential—particularly when it comes to labelling cables correctly and dressing them securely inside trays or cabinets. Effective communication skills are crucial for collaborating harmoniously with colleagues; you should also feel comfortable raising concerns early so that challenges can be addressed swiftly. Safety awareness is paramount given the physical nature of the job; adherence to best practices ensures not only your wellbeing but also that of your teammates. Ideally, you have completed entry-level BICSI/FOA training (or possess comparable practical experience), which further demonstrates your readiness for this specialised field. Your dedication to quality workmanship combined with a willingness to learn new techniques will make you an invaluable member of the team.

  • Practical experience installing copper and fibre cabling within data hall environments, demonstrating familiarity with industry standards and detailed work packages.
  • Proficiency in using common installation tools such as crimpers, strippers, testers, and labelling devices relevant to cable management tasks.
  • Solid understanding of basic cable identification methods along with best practices for routing cables efficiently without causing damage or confusion.
  • Exceptional attention to detail when labelling cables accurately, dressing them neatly within trays or cabinets, and avoiding any potential harm to connectors or fibres.
  • Ability to communicate clearly within a team setting while being ready to escalate issues early for prompt resolution by supervisors or project leads.
  • Commitment to maintaining safe work practices at all times—especially when operating on ladders or lifts in confined spaces—and upholding rigorous housekeeping standards.
  • Willingness to participate actively in self-checks or peer checks prior to testing phases as part of quality assurance protocols.
  • Preferred: Entry-level BICSI/FOA training certification or equivalent on-the-job experience related specifically to structured cabling systems.
