Head of Payment Operations

Oversee end-to-end payment operations for Singapore, ensuring all transactions are processed accurately, efficiently, and within required timelines. Ensure strict adherence to MAS regulations, internal policies, and industry standards. Support and drive transformation initiatives, including ISO 20022 implementation and system enhancements. Serve as escalation point for operational issues and maintain business continuity.

Key Responsibilities

Payment Operations & Performance

  • Lead end-to-end payment operations to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient transaction processing.
  • Ensure adherence to SLAs and maintain high Straight-Through Processing (STP) rates.
  • Drive a zero-error operating environment through strong controls and issue resolution.
  • Act as escalation point and ensure continuity of critical payment services.

Strategy & Transformation

  • Define and execute payment strategies aligned with regulatory and Group priorities.
  • Lead ISO 20022 (MX) migration in line with SWIFT CBPR+ and MAS roadmap.
  • Drive automation, digitalisation, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Enhance systems, workflows, and operational controls for greater efficiency.

Risk, Compliance & Reconciliation

  • Ensure compliance with MAS regulations, SWIFT standards, and internal policies.
  • Oversee Nostro/Vostro reconciliation processes and resolve exceptions in a timely manner.
  • Monitor KPIs and KRIs to ensure strong operational risk management.
  • Support Business Continuity Planning (BCP), testing, and readiness activities.

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing operations team.
  • Drive workforce planning, capability building, and succession development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of banking experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong experience in payment operations within a Singapore/regional banking environment.
  • Solid understanding of MAS regulations and SWIFT-based payment systems.
  • Hands-on experience in ISO 20022, cross-border payments, and Nostro/Vostro reconciliation.

Technical Expertise

  • SWIFT MT/MX messaging (e.g. MT103, MT202, pacs.008, pacs.009)
  • SWIFT GPI and Alliance Access
  • MEPS+ and Singapore payment infrastructure
  • Core banking and payment processing systems
