An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Settlement and Trade Operations Assistant to join a highly respected financial services organisation based in Kuala Lumpur. This role offers you the chance to work at the heart of Asian equity markets, supporting daily settlement activities across 11 diverse countries. You will be part of a collaborative and knowledgeable team, working closely with colleagues in both Asia and London, as well as interacting with brokers and compliance professionals. The position is ideal for someone who thrives in an inclusive, supportive environment where attention to detail, communication skills, and a passion for operational excellence are valued. Flexible working arrangements are available to accommodate market hours, ensuring you can balance your professional growth with personal commitments. If you are looking for a role that combines technical expertise with meaningful teamwork and the opportunity to make a real impact on fund operations, this could be the perfect next step in your career.
- Work directly with leading financial professionals across multiple international markets, gaining exposure to complex settlement processes and regulatory frameworks.
- Enjoy flexible working opportunities designed to support your work-life balance while covering key market hours across Asia.
- Be part of a supportive team culture that values knowledge sharing, collaboration, and ongoing professional development within a global network.
What you'll do:
As a Settlement and Trade Operations Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth execution of equity settlements across a wide range of Asian markets. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve close coordination with brokers to resolve any discrepancies or unmatched trades promptly. You will also be responsible for monitoring broker performance throughout trading hours, managing essential documentation for new partners, and supporting regulatory compliance efforts. Working alongside experienced Fund Accountants both locally and internationally, you will help maintain high standards of operational efficiency while contributing to important projects such as board pack preparation. Your ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and collaborate effectively within a multicultural environment will be key to your success in this role.
- Oversee daily settlement and trade matching for equity transactions across 11 Asian markets including Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam by ensuring all trades are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Resolve settlement breaks and unmatched trades by liaising with brokers to ensure timely resolution and minimal disruption to trading activities.
- Monitor broker execution throughout the day to ensure alignment with best practices and internal policies while maintaining clear records of all actions taken.
- Manage documentation requirements and facilitate the onboarding process for new execution brokers by coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with Fund Accountants and the Operations team based in London to guarantee seamless settlement processes across time zones.
- Support the Compliance Officer during annual broker reviews and assist in preparing periodic regulatory returns required by the Securities Commission of Malaysia (SC).
- Assist in compiling comprehensive board packs for fund meetings by gathering relevant data and ensuring accuracy of information presented.
- Contribute to ad hoc operational tasks as directed by Fund Accountants or the Compliance Officer, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to support broader team objectives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market practices, settlement cycles, and compliance requirements specific to each Asian market involved.
What you bring:
To excel as a Settlement and Trade Operations Assistant, you will bring substantial practical experience from previous roles involving multi-market settlements—ideally within equities—and possess deep familiarity with operational procedures specific to Asian financial environments. Your background should include direct responsibility for reconciliation tasks where attention to detail is paramount; you should feel comfortable investigating discrepancies independently until resolution is achieved. Strong communication abilities are vital since you will interact regularly with both internal teams abroad and external counterparties such as brokers. Proficiency in Excel will enable you to manage complex data sets efficiently while supporting reporting needs. Flexibility regarding shift patterns is important due to varying market hours across regions. A proactive attitude towards learning new regulations or adapting existing processes will further enhance your contribution within this dynamic setting.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in settlement operations within multiple Asian equity markets is essential for this specialist position.
- Proven ability to perform reconciliations independently while identifying and resolving breaks or issues related to unmatched or failing trades as well as standard settlement instructions (SSI).
- Comprehensive understanding of market practices, reporting requirements, compliance obligations, and settlement cycles unique to each Asian jurisdiction covered by the role.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required for managing large datasets and supporting accurate reporting functions.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with brokers, colleagues in London, and regulatory bodies.
- Willingness to work shifts that align with various Asian market hours demonstrates flexibility and commitment to team goals.
- Experience managing documentation workflows related to broker onboarding processes is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with regulatory submissions such as those required by the Securities Commission of Malaysia (SC) would be advantageous but not mandatory.
- A collaborative approach combined with strong interpersonal skills ensures successful teamwork within an international context.
