SmartStream Advisory Lead (Reconciliation / Finance Systems)

Save job

A leading FS company is looking for a SmartStream Advisor to lead the adoption of their program globally. This is an internal consultancy role where your expertise will directly shape the future of finance operations across multiple countries. You will be at the heart of a major transformation, engaging with senior stakeholders, diagnosing adoption challenges and providing tailored advisory to ensure that SmartStream delivers its full business value.

What you'll do:

As the SmartStream Advisory Lead, you will:

  • Proactively engage with business units across multiple geographies to assess their SmartStream adoption levels, usage quality, and system dependencies, ensuring no unit is left behind in the transformation journey.
  • Identify and categorise adoption challenges such as wrong-purpose usage, legacy system persistence, rule configuration gaps, user capability shortfalls, or data quality issues stemming from upstream systems.
  • Deliver concrete, context-specific advisory to individual business units on optimising their use of SmartStream, moving beyond generic recommendations to actionable guidance tailored to each unit’s needs.
  • Prioritise business units based on the severity of their adoption gaps and their impact on the overall finance operating model, ensuring resources are focused where they can deliver the greatest benefit.
  • Track improvement in SmartStream adoption over time and provide regular progress reports to programme leadership, demonstrating tangible results from your interventions.
  • Develop and execute strategies to help business units confidently decommission legacy reconciliation systems by addressing both technical barriers and organisational resistance.
  • Act as the primary functional advisor on solution design and rule optimisation within SmartStream, reviewing configurations and recommending enhancements that balance automation, accuracy, and control requirements.
  • Oversee integration points between SmartStream and Oracle General Ledger or other finance systems at a functional level, supporting issue diagnosis related to data flow or reconciliation logic.
  • Ensure all SmartStream usage aligns with finance control frameworks, audit standards, and SOX compliance requirements by owning documentation of controls and identifying areas for enhancement.
  • Build reusable advisory frameworks, diagnostic tools, and knowledge assets that enable the scaling of SmartStream expertise within the organisation while reducing reliance on external consultants.

What you bring:

To excel as the SmartStream Advisory Lead you will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems or a related field is required for this position.
  • Hands-on configuration experience with SmartStream (TLM Reconciliations, Control or Corona) in a live production environment is essential; candidates with TLM or Frontier (SunGard/FIS) experience in bank reconciliation or cash management contexts may also be considered if they demonstrate strong advisory depth.
  • 7–10 years’ experience in Finance Operations, Finance Systems or Finance Transformation roles with proven post-go-live advisory exposure—assessing adoption challenges rather than simply implementing platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide proactive advisory engagement: diagnosing issues before escalation occurs and delivering specific recommendations tailored to individual business units’ needs.
  • Experience guiding organisations through transition away from legacy systems following new platform go-lives—including managing resistance at both technical and organisational levels—is highly valued.
  • Solid understanding of integration points between reconciliation platforms (especially SmartStream) and ERP systems such as Oracle General Ledger; able to distinguish between platform issues and upstream data problems at a functional level.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance requirements as they relate to reconciliation system configuration decisions; experience contributing substantively to control documentation within finance transformation contexts is important.
  • Proven track record navigating complex stakeholder environments across multiple countries or geographies—able to present recommendations credibly under challenge from senior finance leaders such as CFOs or Finance Directors.
  • Exceptional cross-cultural communication skills with genuine sensitivity towards different organisational cultures’ approaches to governance and change management; insurance or financial services industry background is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Personal attributes include being proactive and self-directing (identifying where attention is needed), possessing a consultant mindset (diagnosing before prescribing), holding authority under pressure (explaining rationale constructively), having a global worldview (balancing local constraints with global standards), taking ownership orientation (being accountable for outcomes), and builder ambition (investing in sustainable solutions).

What sets this company apart:

This organisation stands out for its commitment to building sustainable internal capability rather than relying on external consultants—a strategic shift that places Malaysia at the centre of its regional finance transformation activities. The current phase of transformation offers unparalleled scope for personal impact: you won’t just be filling a gap but laying foundations for an enduring function that will shape how finance operates group-wide for years to come.
