Finance Director (Investment Banking)

A leading financial services group in Kuala Lumpur seeks a Finance Director to shape the financial strategy for its capital markets and investment banking divisions. What you'll do:

• Oversee all aspects of finance operations including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger maintenance, fixed assets management, liquidity movements, and related-party transactions to ensure seamless daily functioning.
• Maintain robust internal controls while driving operational efficiency through continuous process improvements and automation initiatives within the finance department.
• Support the implementation of new systems such as back-office replacements, middle-office platforms, and upgrades to the general ledger system to enhance overall workflow.
• Lead statutory reporting processes alongside management reporting cycles, budgeting exercises, forecasting activities, and detailed variance analysis for accurate performance tracking.
• Ensure full compliance with relevant accounting standards and industry regulations by managing annual audits and producing timely, precise financial statements.
• Oversee corporate tax submissions and ensure comprehensive tax compliance for the entire group while leading transfer pricing documentation and governance across entities.
• Provide expert support for tax planning related to new products, business initiatives, or restructuring efforts to optimise fiscal outcomes.
• Act as a strategic business partner by delivering insightful financial analysis that supports key decisions around new product launches and ongoing business development.
• Partner with various business units—including derivatives trading desks, asset management teams, structured products specialists, and wealth managers—to conduct profitability analyses and capital impact studies.
• Manage treasury functions encompassing cash flow oversight, liquidity buffer maintenance, funding requirements assessment, capital adequacy monitoring, fundraising activities, foreign exchange management, working capital optimisation, and support for capital market programmes such as Commercial Paper issuances.

What you bring:

• A degree in Accounting or Finance is essential; holding a professional certification such as ACCA, CPA, MICPA or CFA would be highly regarded for this position.
• At least ten years’ experience in finance roles within financial services or capital markets environments is required to ensure familiarity with sector-specific challenges.
• Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting processes—including statutory accounts preparation—and strong command over internal control frameworks are vital for success.
• Proven track record in treasury management covering cash flow optimisation, liquidity planning, funding strategies and capital adequacy assessments is necessary.
• Comprehensive understanding of tax compliance obligations—particularly corporate tax submissions—and experience overseeing transfer pricing documentation are important assets.
• Experience leading teams effectively while working collaboratively with senior stakeholders across multiple business units is crucial for fostering shared goals.
• Advanced skills in budgeting techniques, forecasting methodologies and variance analysis are needed to support informed decision-making at all levels of the organisation.
• Familiarity with implementing finance-related systems (such as general ledger upgrades or back-office replacements) will enable you to drive operational improvements efficiently.
• Strong interpersonal communication abilities are required for effective business partnering with diverse teams including derivatives traders, asset managers and product developers.
