VP, Islamic Banking
The Islamic Treasury & Global Markets Product Manager acts as a key bridge between Treasury, Shariah, Legal,Compliance, and Relationship teams to develop and manage Shariah-compliant financial products. Responsibilities include structuring Islamic FX, swaps, hedging, and liquidity solutions; ensuring Shariah compliance; preparing policies and documentation; supporting deal execution; and driving product approval and launch processes while maintaining operational efficiency.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as Vice President, Islamic Banking. This leadership role focuses on the development, management, and execution of Shariah-compliant treasury and global markets products for corporate and institutional clients. The VP will act as a strategic bridge between internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring products are commercially viable, operationally efficient, legally sound, and fully compliant with Shariah principles.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Product Development & Structuring
- Lead the design and enhancement of innovative Shariah-compliant treasury and global markets products such as Islamic FX solutions, swaps, hedging instruments, liquidity management tools, and investment products.
- Conduct market analysis to identify client needs and industry trends in Islamic financial solutions.
- Structure products using appropriate Islamic finance concepts (e.g., Murabaha, Ijarah, Wakalah) while ensuring commercial feasibility.
2. Strategic Stakeholder Collaboration
- Serve as the central liaison between Treasury/Global Markets teams, Shariah advisors, Legal, Compliance, Risk Management, Operations, Relationship Managers, and Regulators.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure seamless product approval processes from ideation to launch.
- Represent the organization in discussions with internal committees and external stakeholders.
3. Shariah Compliance Leadership
- Ensure all products strictly adhere to Islamic finance principles by working closely with Shariah scholars and advisors.
- Prepare detailed documentation for Shariah Committee review and approval.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements governing Islamic banking practices.
4. Documentation & Policies
- Develop comprehensive policies and procedures (P&P) for new products covering operational workflows, risk controls, compliance requirements, and Shariah guidelines.
- Draft approval memos, committee papers, marketing materials, term sheets, transaction confirmations, and other essential documentation.
5. Deal Execution Support
- Provide technical expertise in structuring live client transactions involving Islamic profit rate hedges, FX hedges, cross-currency structures, or other treasury solutions.
- Review legal agreements such as ISDA/IIFM Tahawwut Master Agreements (TMA) to ensure compliance with Shariah standards.
- Support Relationship Managers during client negotiations or discussions.
6. Client Solutions & Advisory
- Collaborate with Relationship Managers to design tailored Islamic financial solutions for clients that meet both commercial objectives and Shariah requirements.
- Represent the bank in client meetings to explain product structures and address queries effectively.
7. Governance & Operational Efficiency
- Enhance operational workflows for product implementation while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Strengthen governance frameworks by improving product manuals and internal controls.
- Address audit findings related to Islamic treasury products promptly.
8. Industry Engagement
- Represent the organization in industry forums, regulatory discussions, or Shariah review sessions.
- Stay updated on evolving regulations and market practices impacting Islamic treasury products.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Technical Expertise:
- Deep knowledge of Islamic finance principles and their application in treasury markets.
- Strong understanding of derivatives (e.g., swaps), FX products, hedging solutions, Sukuk structures, liquidity management tools, and related documentation standards.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing Islamic banking products.
Soft Skills:
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to coordinate across diverse teams.
- Strong presentation skills for internal committees and external engagements.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate complex concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
- Detail-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy in documentation and compliance.
Experience:
- Proven experience in Islamic banking or treasury product development roles is essential.
- Backgrounds in structured finance, capital markets, corporate banking, or legal/documentation related to Islamic finance are highly advantageous.
