Test Automation Lead (ELK/Kafka)

Save job

A global organisation in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Test Automation Lead to champion the advancement of their Observability Platform and Practice. This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to design and implement a robust Quality Assurance framework, ensuring the highest standards of software quality and performance. You will be at the forefront of developing automated testing solutions and creating comprehensive test cases.

What you'll do:

As Test Automation Lead, you will play a central role in shaping the future of software quality assurance within a forward-thinking organisation. Your day-to-day responsibilities will revolve around architecting a comprehensive QA framework that supports both functional and non-functional requirements. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to embed automated testing solutions into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring rapid yet reliable software releases. By implementing real-time monitoring systems for test failures, you will empower engineering teams to resolve issues swiftly. Your expertise in Kafka and ELK stack testing will be crucial for optimising data ingestion workflows, log analysis capabilities, and system scalability. You will also manage test automation repositories using Git, oversee data validation processes across varied environments, and mentor junior engineers in best practices. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration among stakeholders while driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the QA practice.

  • Define and implement a proactive QA and test automation strategy that aligns with organisational goals, collaborating with stakeholders to foster a shared vision for quality across all stages of development.
  • Lead the design and execution of a scalable, maintainable QA framework from inception, covering functional tests, non-functional tests such as regression and performance testing, manual testing processes, and release validation.
  • Implement real-time automated monitoring and alerting mechanisms for test failures to ensure swift identification and resolution by engineering teams.
  • Conduct comprehensive testing of Kafka and ELK stack components with particular focus on data ingestion workflows, indexing/query performance metrics, log analysis procedures, and seamless integration within the ELK ecosystem.
  • Advocate for advanced test automation tools within the team by facilitating adoption strategies that enhance efficiency and elevate overall software quality.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams to integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines for streamlined deployment processes and continuous testing coverage.
  • Design detailed test plans tailored to diverse applications, execute rigorous tests, analyse results thoroughly, and provide insightful quality reports to stakeholders.
  • Oversee the organisation and maintenance of test automation code repositories using Git or similar tools, ensuring proper version control protocols and access management.
  • Perform thorough data validation and manipulation across various test scenarios to guarantee data integrity and accuracy throughout multiple testing environments.
  • Mentor junior engineers in test automation practices by promoting continuous improvement initiatives and encouraging adoption of industry-leading QA best practices.

What you bring:

To excel as Test Automation Lead Observability Platform you should bring extensive experience from both testing and development environments—ideally spanning eight to ten years—with proven expertise in designing scalable QA frameworks. Your background should include at least five years dedicated specifically to testing activities where you have demonstrated proficiency in both manual approaches as well as advanced automation techniques. A solid academic foundation in computer science or software engineering equips you with theoretical insights needed for tackling complex challenges. Familiarity with key Automation/DevOps tools such as Git or BitBucket allows you to streamline pipeline management while leveraging RobotFramework or Cucumber enhances your ability to automate intricate test scenarios. Experience working with ELK stack technologies—including Elasticsearch for search functionality; Logstash for data processing; Kibana for visualisation; plus Kafka for high-throughput messaging—is particularly valuable given the platform’s reliance on these components. Scripting skills using Python or PowerShell enable you to build bespoke solutions tailored to unique project needs while infrastructure-as-code proficiency (Ansible/Terraform/Kubernetes/OpenShift) ensures adaptability across cloud-native environments. Operating comfortably on both Windows/Linux platforms further broadens your reach when managing heterogeneous systems. Your collaborative nature fosters effective partnerships during CI/CD integration projects while mentorship abilities help cultivate a culture of continuous improvement among junior colleagues.

  • 8 to 10 years of experience within a testing or development environment is essential for demonstrating deep understanding of complex QA challenges.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in testing is required to ensure familiarity with both manual and automated methodologies.
  • A university degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or equivalent) provides foundational knowledge necessary for success in this role.
  • Experience with Automation/DevOps tools such as Git, BitBucket, RobotFramework, Cucumber, Cloudbees, Openshift, Ansible, Docker is highly valued for automating tests and managing DevOps pipelines efficiently.
  • Proficiency in data ingestion technologies including Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana (ELK Stack), and Kafka is advantageous for handling large datasets effectively.
  • Expertise in scripting languages like Python, PowerShell or YAML enables you to develop custom tools as well as infrastructure-as-code solutions (preferably Ansible, Terraform, Kubernetes or OpenShift).
  • Ability to operate proficiently across both Windows and Linux operating systems ensures versatility when managing diverse environments.
  • Experience conducting comprehensive testing on Kafka & ELK stack components demonstrates your capability to optimise performance metrics within distributed systems.
  • Strong collaborative skills are vital for working closely with engineering teams during CI/CD integration efforts.
  • Mentorship experience is desirable as you will guide junior engineers towards adopting best practices in test automation.
