Group Accountant

Save job

A leading and well-established organisation in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Group Accountant to join their collaborative finance team. This is an exceptional opportunity for individuals with audit backgrounds—whether from Big 4, mid-tier, or commercial audit environments—who are eager to transition into a commercial finance role. As a Group Accountant, you will play a pivotal part in overseeing group financial reporting, ensuring strict adherence to accounting standards, and providing valuable support for strategic financial decision-making across the organisation. The company offers a stable and supportive environment where your expertise will be valued, and you will benefit from strong regional exposure across multiple entities. With a focus on professional growth and knowledge sharing, this role provides the perfect platform for those looking to broaden their experience within a dynamic and growing business. * Gain significant regional and group-level exposure by working with multiple entities across the organisation, enhancing your understanding of complex financial structures and reporting requirements. * Transition seamlessly from an audit-focused background into a commercial finance position, leveraging your existing skills while developing new competencies in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic analysis. * Enjoy the stability of a reputable organisation that values professional development, offering opportunities for career progression, ongoing training, and a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your long-term success.

What you'll do:

As a Group Accountant based in Kuala Lumpur, you will be entrusted with responsibilities that are central to the organisation’s financial integrity. Your day-to-day activities will involve preparing consolidated accounts for multiple entities within the group, ensuring that all reports meet stringent MFRS/IFRS standards. You will work closely with subsidiary teams to review their submissions, provide guidance on reporting consistency, and manage the full consolidation process—including intercompany eliminations. In addition to core reporting duties, you will play an active role in supporting budgeting cycles by delivering thorough variance analyses that help shape key business decisions. Your ability to liaise with auditors and regulatory bodies will be crucial during compliance reviews. Furthermore, you will contribute to strengthening internal controls across the group while participating in projects aimed at streamlining systems and processes. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also excellent communication skills as you collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements for the group, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all reporting cycles.
  • Ensure all group financial reports comply fully with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), maintaining consistency across all entities.
  • Manage the complete group consolidation process, including handling intercompany eliminations and resolving discrepancies between subsidiaries’ submissions.
  • Review financial data submitted by subsidiaries to guarantee alignment with established reporting standards and identify areas for improvement or clarification as needed.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting processes at the group level by providing detailed variance analysis and insightful commentary to inform management decisions.
  • Liaise effectively with external auditors, tax agents, and regulatory authorities during audit cycles to ensure smooth compliance processes and timely resolution of queries.
  • Strengthen internal controls throughout the group by identifying potential risks, recommending improvements, and monitoring implementation to safeguard assets and ensure compliance.
  • Provide clear financial insights and analytical support to senior management teams to facilitate informed strategic decision-making across various business units.
  • Assist in system enhancements and process improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency in financial reporting workflows and reducing manual intervention.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive best practices in financial management while fostering an inclusive environment that encourages knowledge sharing.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Group Accountant position brings a solid foundation in accounting principles supported by hands-on experience from either an audit or commercial finance setting. Your academic achievements—ideally complemented by professional qualifications—demonstrate your commitment to excellence. You have developed a keen eye for detail through years spent navigating complex reporting requirements under MFRS/IFRS frameworks. Your comfort with advanced Excel functions and enterprise accounting systems ensures you can handle large volumes of data efficiently. Beyond technical expertise, your interpersonal skills set you apart: you communicate clearly with colleagues at all levels, respond thoughtfully under pressure during busy periods such as month-end close or audits, and approach challenges collaboratively. Whether reviewing subsidiary submissions or supporting process improvements, your reliability makes you an invaluable member of any finance team.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required; candidates holding a professional qualification such as ACCA or CPA (or equivalent) are highly preferred for this position.
  • Experience gained from external audit roles—particularly within Big 4 or mid-tier firms—is welcomed; candidates seeking their first move into commercial finance are encouraged to apply.
  • A minimum of three to six years of relevant experience in accounting or auditing is essential for success in this role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is necessary for accurate group reporting.
  • Exposure to group consolidation processes is advantageous but not mandatory if you possess strong audit credentials; training can be provided where needed.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is expected along with familiarity using major accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, SQL or similar platforms.
  • Meticulous attention to detail combined with robust analytical skills enables you to identify discrepancies quickly and propose effective solutions.
  • Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities demonstrates your dependability within fast-paced reporting cycles.
  • Excellent communication abilities are vital for engaging with stakeholders across different departments as well as external parties like auditors or regulators.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills allow you to build positive relationships that foster collaboration throughout the organisation.
