Commercial Finance Controller

What you'll do:

As a Commercial Finance Controller you will immerse yourself in every aspect of retail finance across Malaysia and Singapore. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you partnering with senior leaders from various departments—Retail Operations to Supply Chain—to provide insightful recommendations that drive both top-line growth and bottom-line efficiency.

• Evaluate business cases for new stores, relocations, refurbishments, marketing investments, and other strategic projects through detailed scenario planning and financial modelling.
• Drive accountability for financial performance across all business functions by monitoring key metrics such as sales productivity, conversion rates, average transaction value, and store profitability.
• Support Merchandising teams in assessing product performance by analysing gross margins, markdown effectiveness, inventory productivity, and promotional campaign outcomes.
• Lead annual budgeting processes as well as quarterly forecasting and long-range planning for both countries to ensure informed investment decisions are made.
• Oversee cash management processes including inventory health monitoring, stock reconciliation activities, sell-through rates analysis, stock turnover evaluation, and markdown performance reviews.
• Champion process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing reporting accuracy through automation while supporting digitalisation efforts within finance teams.
• Prepare high-quality management presentations for local management teams as well as regional stakeholders by clearly communicating financial implications of risks or opportunities identified during analyses.
• Build trusted relationships with country leadership teams by facilitating alignment between commercial priorities and financial objectives through regular executive reporting.

What you bring:

To excel as a Commercial Finance Controller you will bring extensive experience gained from progressive roles within commercial finance—ideally spanning retail consumer goods or similar customer-focused sectors.

• 8–12 years of progressive experience in Commercial Finance roles such as FP&A Business Controlling or Retail Finance ideally within retail consumer goods
• Proven track record in financial planning budgeting forecasting profitability analysis business performance management especially supporting multi-store retail operations.
• Strong understanding of retail KPIs including sales productivity gross margin inventory turnover markdown management store profitability coupled with deep analytical capability.
• Bachelor's Degree in Finance Accounting Economics Business or related field; professional accounting qualification (ACCA CPA CA CIMA or equivalent) preferred.
• Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior business leaders through fact-based analysis clear communication constructive challenge when needed.
• Collaborative leadership style proven ability to work effectively across diverse teams
