Financial Controller

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Controller to join a leading global manufacturer in Penang, where your expertise will be pivotal in shaping the financial health and operational success of the business.

This role offers you the chance to work within a highly respected international group renowned for its commitment to excellence in industrial technology. You will play a crucial part in ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, and compliance with both local and group standards, all while supporting strategic decision-making at the highest level. The organisation values collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth, providing an environment where your skills are nurtured and your contributions truly matter.

What you'll do:

As Financial Controller, you will be entrusted with overseeing every aspect of the company’s financial operations in Penang. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing the full spectrum of accounting activities—from maintaining accurate records to preparing detailed monthly reports that inform key business decisions. You will play an instrumental role in manufacturing accounting processes, ensuring that costs are properly allocated and inventories are accurately valued. By coordinating regular audits of physical inventories and reconciling balance sheets each month, you will uphold rigorous standards of compliance. Your expertise will also be called upon during year-end reporting cycles when compiling disclosure packs for group review. In addition to these core duties, you will administer critical financial systems integration projects while supervising a dedicated team of finance professionals. Your ability to forecast CAPEX spend effectively will directly contribute to the company’s ongoing success. Throughout all these activities, your commitment to continuous improvement will help foster a culture of excellence within the finance department.

  • Oversee the maintenance of accurate books and records for the Malaysian subsidiary, ensuring all financial data is meticulously documented and up-to-date.
  • Manage the monthly close process by preparing and reviewing comprehensive financial statements covering revenue, costs, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and operating cash flow.
  • Lead manufacturing accounting activities including standard costing, labour and overhead capitalisation, freight capitalisation, and inventory provisioning to ensure precise cost management.
  • Coordinate physical inventory audits to guarantee accuracy in stock records and compliance with internal controls.
  • Ensure strict adherence to group accounting policies and the Financial Controls Framework by implementing best practices across all finance functions.
  • Prepare detailed monthly balance sheet account reconciliations to maintain transparency and integrity in financial reporting.
  • Compile year-end and half-year-end financial disclosure packs for submission to group headquarters, meeting all statutory requirements.
  • Administer local financial systems (Infor) and oversee their seamless integration with corporate accounting platforms such as Anaplan.
  • Supervise external annual audits of financial statements by liaising with auditors and providing necessary documentation promptly.
  • Forecast, approve, and track capital expenditure (CAPEX), ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints while supporting business growth initiatives.

What you bring:

To excel as Financial Controller, your background should reflect substantial experience in managing complex finance functions within a manufacturing environment. You bring not only technical expertise but also strong interpersonal skills that enable you to nurture talent within your team while fostering an inclusive atmosphere built on trust and mutual respect. Your deep understanding of tax laws ensures that all statutory obligations are met efficiently; meanwhile, your proficiency with modern ERP systems allows you to streamline processes for maximum efficiency. Experience preparing detailed reports—whether for internal use or external audit—demonstrates your attention to detail. As someone who thrives on collaboration rather than competition, your ability to communicate clearly across cultures makes you an invaluable asset when working with both local teams and international stakeholders. Your approachability encourages open dialogue among colleagues while your sense of responsibility ensures deadlines are consistently met without compromising quality.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field is essential; holding a professional certification such as ACCA, CPA or CIMA would be highly advantageous for this role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tax regulations and legal matters relevant to Malaysian operations is required for effective compliance management.
  • Extensive experience using software packages including Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, Infor ERP systems, and other advanced financial applications is expected.
  • At least five years’ proven experience in a similar position within manufacturing or industrial sectors is necessary for success in this role.
  • Hands-on experience conducting physical inventories ensures you can manage stock accuracy confidently.
  • Familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), particularly IAS 2 Inventories, is important for maintaining global compliance standards.
  • Previous people management experience is vital as you will supervise a team of four direct reports within the finance function.
  • Experience reporting into listed groups provides valuable insight into regulatory requirements at both local and international levels.
  • Excellent teamwork skills are required as you will collaborate closely with colleagues across departments to achieve shared objectives.
  • Advanced English proficiency—both written and oral—is essential for preparing technical documents and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
