What you'll do:
As Head of Finance based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a central role in shaping the financial landscape for operations across Asia. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve guiding a talented team through complex accounting processes while ensuring that all reporting meets stringent global standards. You will be instrumental in driving process improvements through digitalisation initiatives that streamline workflows and enhance data integrity. By partnering with various stakeholders—both internally across departments and externally with auditors—you will help steer strategic decisions related to acquisitions, divestments, financing arrangements, and market expansions. Your ability to mentor others will be crucial in fostering a culture of continuous learning within your team. Success in this role requires not only technical expertise but also strong interpersonal skills to build trustful relationships throughout the organisation.
* Lead the Financial Accounting & Reporting team across Asia by providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight to ensure accurate account closures and preparation of periodic financial reports.
* Ensure that all internal accounting standards, controls, and statutory requirements are met across multiple jurisdictions by verifying that operations, documentation, and reporting adhere to both internal policies and external regulations.
* Monitor changes in accounting standards and reporting requirements globally; evaluate their impacts on business operations; identify potential risks; develop mitigation strategies; communicate solutions effectively to stakeholders; and update relevant policies as needed.
* Drive initiatives focused on simplification, standardisation, digitalisation, and automation of FA&R operations to maximise efficiency while aligning ERP systems with modern best practices.
* Collaborate closely with internal teams as well as external partners by leading financial accounting initiatives; provide expert advice on acquisitions, structuring new or divesting existing projects (including M&A), financings, corporate actions, and expansion into new jurisdictions.
* Develop strong relationships with external auditors as well as internal stakeholders to facilitate smooth audits and ensure transparent communication regarding all financial matters.
* Mentor direct reports by acting as a positive role model for the organisation; foster a culture of learning; manage resources effectively; plan departmental affairs; and cultivate an inclusive winning culture within the team.
* Oversee ad hoc matters as they arise by demonstrating flexibility in managing unexpected challenges while maintaining focus on core responsibilities.
* Champion knowledge sharing within the department by facilitating training sessions that enhance technical skills and promote best practices among team members.
What you bring:
To excel as Head of Finance you will bring extensive experience gained from multinational settings or top-tier consulting environments where you have overseen complex financial accounting functions. Your background should include mastery over both local GAAP requirements and international standards like IFRS—enabling you to navigate regulatory landscapes confidently. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools is essential for analysing data sets thoroughly and presenting findings persuasively. Beyond technical prowess, your interpersonal strengths—such as clear communication style—will allow you to connect meaningfully with colleagues at every level. You are adept at mentoring teams spread across different regions while fostering an atmosphere conducive to shared success. * Possess at least 12 years of experience in financial accounting and reporting within multinational organisations or Big 4 environments with a proven record of leading large-scale FA&R activities.
* Demonstrate deep knowledge of local GAAP as well as IFRS standards alongside strong commercial acumen relevant to infrastructure or offshore oil and gas sectors.
* Exhibit advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis; PowerPoint for impactful presentations; Word for comprehensive documentation; capable of handling complex datasets efficiently.
* Showcase excellent communication abilities including negotiation skills; present complex information clearly across all organisational levels; adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
* Display advanced people leadership capabilities by building high-performance teams across geographies within an international context while nurturing talent development.
