An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Manager to join a leading investment group at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, supporting their expanding operations across the oil and gas, power, and renewable energy sectors. This role offers you the chance to be part of a highly collaborative headquarters finance team, where your expertise will directly impact overseas operating units in dynamic markets such as Indonesia, China, Singapore, and beyond. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring robust financial management, compliance with group policies, and seamless communication between international teams. With a focus on both traditional and emerging energy sectors, this position provides a unique platform for professional growth within a supportive environment that values knowledge sharing, continuous process improvement, and multicultural teamwork. * Be part of a central finance team managing diverse international operations across Asia’s most vibrant energy markets, including oil & gas and renewables. * Contribute to impactful projects by supporting process enhancements, system upgrades, and strategic decision-making at group level.

What you'll do:

As a Finance Manager based in Kuala Lumpur, you will immerse yourself in a multifaceted role that bridges local expertise with global reach. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with finance professionals from multiple countries as you oversee financial reporting cycles, drive compliance initiatives, and contribute to strategic planning efforts. You will be instrumental in reviewing consolidated accounts for group reporting purposes while also engaging in budgetary oversight for both established operations and new ventures. Your ability to communicate effectively across cultures will be key as you work alongside colleagues in Indonesia, China, Singapore, India, and more. In addition to core responsibilities around reporting and compliance, you will have the opportunity to participate in process improvement projects—helping shape best practices that benefit the entire organisation. By fostering strong relationships with internal teams and external partners alike, you will help ensure that financial operations remain efficient, transparent, and aligned with broader business objectives.

  • Oversee and maintain active communication regarding monthly management reports and quarterly updates prepared by overseas finance teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare or review consolidation packages as well as quarterly and annual reporting submissions for ultimate holding company requirements.
  • Review monthly management reports for investment holding entities, inactive companies, or newly established subsidiaries to ensure compliance with internal standards.
  • Collaborate closely with overseas offices on annual tax compliance matters, including reviewing tax computations and participating in discussions with external consultants on potential audit issues affecting international operations.
  • Maintain regular liaison with Heads of Finance in overseas offices to support continuous process improvements and system enhancements across all locations.
  • Assist the Senior Finance Manager in monitoring group cash flow positions and funding needs for investment holding companies to ensure optimal resource allocation.
  • Prepare or review annual budgets for active operating companies, including thorough analysis of underlying assumptions to support sound financial planning.
  • Oversee the preparation or review of audited financial statements and conduct annual impairment assessments for operating subsidiaries to uphold transparency and accountability.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during half-year reviews and annual audits to facilitate smooth audit processes and address any queries promptly.
  • Ensure consistent application of group policies and procedures across various offices while liaising with Accounts Payable, Treasury teams, Group Tax, Company Secretary, and other stakeholders as required.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Finance Manager role brings not only deep technical proficiency but also proven experience navigating complex multinational environments. Your background should reflect substantial involvement in both core finance functions—such as reporting cycles, budgeting processes—and specialised areas like tax compliance or audit coordination. Experience gained within the oil & gas sector will enable you to understand industry-specific challenges while your familiarity with upstream commercial frameworks ensures effective oversight of joint ventures or production agreements. Beyond technical skills, your interpersonal abilities will allow you to build trust-based relationships across borders—facilitating open communication between headquarters staff and overseas colleagues. Your commitment to continuous improvement means you are always seeking ways to enhance existing systems or processes while remaining sensitive to cultural nuances. A willingness to share knowledge generously further supports team cohesion. Ultimately, your combination of analytical acumen, collaborative spirit, attention to detail, and adaptability makes you an invaluable asset capable of driving operational excellence throughout the organisation.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is essential for this position to ensure foundational technical knowledge.
  • Professional qualifications such as ACCA or ICAEW are highly encouraged as they demonstrate advanced expertise in financial management.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in finance roles is required, including at least 3 years spent within audit functions to guarantee depth of understanding.
  • Extensive background in the oil & gas industry is preferred; exposure to upstream exploration, development, production activities is considered a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with commercial arrangements specific to upstream oil & gas—including Production Sharing Contracts (PSC), Joint Operating Agreements (JOA), cash calls, and cost recovery mechanisms—is highly valued.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is necessary; experience using SAP systems would be an added benefit for streamlining processes.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills are needed to manage multiple priorities efficiently within tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multifunctional teams across different cultures is crucial for success in this multinational environment.
  • Strong command of English (both written and spoken) is required; Mandarin language skills would be advantageous given the regional scope of operations.
  • A positive attitude towards learning new concepts quickly combined with self-discipline ensures adaptability in a fast-evolving sector.
