In this role, you will design, implement, and test embedded software solutions for liquid handling and robotic applications. You will play a critical role in developing innovative software concepts, ensuring high-quality code, and collaborating across interdisciplinary teams to deliver cutting-edge products.

Key Responsibilities

Software Design & Development:

• Plan and develop overall software concepts for embedded systems used in liquid handling and robotic applications.
• Implement C++ and C# code using modern development tools and frameworks.
• Ensure software quality through code reviews, pair programming, and systematic testing processes.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and perform error correction during development cycles.

Technical Leadership:

• Mentor and coach other engineers to enhance their technical skills and professional growth.
• Lead implementation tasks and guide project efforts to ensure timely delivery of objectives.
• Define coding standards, guidelines, and best practices for the team.

Collaboration & Communication:

• Work closely with electronics, software/system architects, motion control experts, mechanics specialists, and production teams to ensure seamless integration of components.
• Present technical solutions effectively to engineering teams and stakeholders.
• Facilitate cross-project consistency by collaborating with international teams across multiple sites (e.g., R&D teams in Penang and Switzerland).

Process & Documentation:

• Systematically implement process and regulatory documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Maintain structured design data for traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
• Evaluate new tools and methods to improve software engineering practices continuously.

Technical Requirements

To excel in this role, you should bring:

• Expertise in programming languages such as C++, C#, .NET Framework, or similar object-oriented programming languages.
• Proficiency with modern development tools for embedded systems (e.g., debugging tools).
• Strong understanding of electronics, embedded systems, motion control, robotics, control theory, signal processing, microcontroller/SoC architectures, real-time communication protocols, and operating systems.
• Ability to analyze complex technical information and conduct advanced research into emerging technologies.
• Experience troubleshooting/debugging complex issues in embedded systems environments.
• Knowledge of agile principles applied within a software development setting.
• Ability to write clear technical specifications/documentation that supports compliance with regulatory standards.

Interpersonal Skills & Competencies

• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English for effective collaboration across international teams.
• Strong moderation skills for facilitating discussions within engineering teams.
• Capability to present technical solutions confidently to diverse audiences.

Experience & Education Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications:

• A technical degree in computer science, robotics, control technology, electrical engineering, or software engineering is required.
• 6–14+ years of experience in instrument development—preferably within the medical device industry or related fields.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

• Experience programming robots or liquid handling devices is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Familiarity with software development for medical devices is a plus.
