Senior Data Engineer
A global multinational organisation is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join its Global Data Management Platforms & Technologies team in Kuala Lumpur. This role offers you the opportunity to work on enterprise-level data solutions, collaborating with talented teams across Malaysia, the UK, the US and other regions.
What you'll do:
As a Senior Data Engineer based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s approach to enterprise data management. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing end-to-end project lifecycles—from initial requirements gathering through solution design, development, testing and deployment—ensuring that every stage delivers value for both technical teams and business stakeholders. You will be deeply involved in designing optimised ETL/ELT pipelines as well as advanced data warehouse architectures that underpin critical business intelligence functions. By maintaining robust CI/CD-driven integration processes, you’ll help guarantee smooth operations while proactively troubleshooting any production issues that arise. Collaboration is key; you’ll work alongside global teams spanning Malaysia, UK, US and beyond, sharing knowledge and aligning efforts for maximum impact. Success in this role means not only delivering high-quality technical solutions but also building strong relationships with stakeholders to understand their needs fully—and translating those needs into actionable outcomes that drive organisational success.
- Manage the entire data engineering lifecycle, including requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing and deployment, ensuring seamless delivery of enterprise data solutions.
- Design, develop and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines as well as sophisticated data warehouse solutions that support business intelligence needs across the organisation.
- Develop and maintain enterprise data integration processes using CI/CD methodologies to ensure efficient and reliable data flows.
- Work across various domains such as data warehousing, data modelling, data lakes, enterprise data integration and BI solutions to deliver comprehensive analytics capabilities.
- Develop and performance-tune complex data loads into the data warehouse to maximise efficiency and accuracy.
- Support production data loads by troubleshooting issues promptly and driving effective resolution to maintain operational stability.
- Collaborate with global data engineering teams based in Malaysia, UK, US and other regions to share knowledge and deliver impactful solutions.
- Engage with technical and business stakeholders to understand their requirements thoroughly and deliver tailored data solutions that meet organisational objectives.
- Ensure best practices are followed in all aspects of development, integration and maintenance of enterprise data platforms.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team by sharing insights gained from hands-on experience with modern tools and technologies.
What you bring:
To excel as a Senior Data Engineer in this global organisation based in Kuala Lumpur, you will bring proven experience across multiple facets of enterprise data management. Your academic background—ideally a Bachelor’s degree in IT or related fields—will be complemented by extensive hands-on exposure to Oracle SQL & PL/SQL optimisation as well as Snowflake cloud platforms. You’ll demonstrate proficiency with leading ETL tools like Informatica Cloud / IDMC or SSIS alongside strong UNIX/Linux scripting abilities. Your programming skills in Python, R or Scala will enable you to tackle diverse analytical challenges while your familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI ensures seamless support for business intelligence projects. Exposure to Azure cloud environments further enhances your versatility. Advantageous skills such as Kimball modelling techniques or Medallion Architecture pipeline design will set you apart; meanwhile knowledge of Apache Iceberg or Control-M scheduling adds valuable depth. Personal attributes such as analytical thinking, adaptability when facing ambiguous requirements, clear communication with both technical/non-technical stakeholders and willingness to learn new technologies are crucial. - Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field is required for this position.
- At least 5 years of experience in Data Engineering or related technology roles demonstrates your depth of expertise.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience with Oracle SQL & PL/SQL—including optimisation and performance tuning—is essential for handling complex database tasks.
- You should have at least 2 years’ experience working with Snowflake cloud platforms to support scalable analytics solutions.
- Hands-on experience with ETL tools such as Informatica Cloud / IDMC, Informatica, ODI or SSIS for at least 2 years is necessary for effective integration processes.
- Strong proficiency in UNIX/Linux scripting enables you to automate workflows efficiently within enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated ability in Python, R or Scala allows you to build versatile solutions for varied analytical needs.
- Experience building data sources and models for Tableau, Power BI or OBIEE ensures you can support business intelligence initiatives effectively.
- Exposure to Azure cloud platforms alongside Snowflake is advantageous for supporting hybrid cloud architectures.
- Advantageous skills include familiarity with Kimball dimensional modelling (star/snowflake schemas), Medallion Architecture pipeline design, Apache Iceberg technologies, Control-M scheduling tools, statistical modelling/predictive analytics/machine learning techniques and Oracle APEX.
