This role offers you the chance to work at the forefront of data engineering, collaborating with knowledgeable teams and leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as Oracle, MS SQL, and Kafka.

What you'll do:

As a Data Engineer based in Kuala Lumpur, you will immerse yourself in a dynamic environment where your expertise will be central to building resilient data solutions for critical banking functions. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with various teams to gather detailed requirements before translating them into robust technical solutions. You will architect and optimise ETL pipelines using Oracle and MS SQL, ensuring that both batch-processed and real-time data streams flow efficiently between systems. By managing Kafka-driven integrations, you will enable real-time insights that empower business decision-making. Your commitment to quality will shine through as you implement validation checks across all stages of the pipeline, while your proactive approach ensures any risks are swiftly addressed. Regular communication with stakeholders keeps everyone aligned on progress, while thorough documentation supports both current operations and future enhancements. Success in this role means delivering dependable data infrastructure that underpins essential banking services while continuously seeking ways to improve performance and reliability.

  • Lead requirements gathering sessions for data-related projects by engaging closely with stakeholders to understand and document their needs in detail.
  • Design, develop, and maintain efficient data pipelines that support extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes using Oracle and MS SQL technologies.
  • Implement and manage batch processing jobs that ensure timely and accurate handling of daily banking operations’ data.
  • Utilise Kafka to manage real-time data streaming and facilitate seamless integration with core banking systems.
  • Collaborate effectively with development teams, business analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure all project deliverables meet agreed-upon specifications and timelines.
  • Identify potential risks within data projects, escalating issues or proposing contingency plans as necessary to safeguard project outcomes.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress by tracking key deliverables and ensuring alignment with overall goals.
  • Execute assigned tasks within established timelines while adhering strictly to development standards and quality benchmarks set by the team.
  • Contribute actively to the design of scalable, reliable, and efficient data architectures that support complex processing requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation covering all aspects of data processes, system configurations, and architectural decisions to support ongoing maintenance.

What you bring:

To excel as a Data Engineer in this role, your background should reflect substantial experience working with enterprise-grade databases such as Oracle and MS SQL alongside modern streaming platforms like Kafka. Your technical toolkit includes deep familiarity with ETL methodologies—enabling you to transform raw information into actionable insights—and an aptitude for optimising queries for maximum efficiency. Beyond technical prowess, your interpersonal skills allow you to connect meaningfully with colleagues from diverse backgrounds; you thrive when sharing knowledge or co-operating on shared objectives. A keen eye for detail ensures your solutions are not only functional but also secure and compliant with industry standards. Your willingness to embrace new challenges is matched by a commitment to continuous learning—keeping pace with emerging trends so your contributions remain relevant. Whether supporting business-as-usual operations or spearheading innovative new projects, your dependability makes you an invaluable member of any team.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience gained through relevant roles.
  • At least two years of hands-on experience in data engineering roles focused on Oracle and MS SQL environments within complex organisations.
  • Proven experience working with Kafka or similar real-time data streaming platforms for seamless integration between systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of ETL processes along with advanced knowledge of database query optimisation techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability in designing effective batch processing workflows as well as developing scalable data pipelines from diverse sources.
  • Proficiency in SQL performance tuning coupled with strong skills in schema design and data modelling for structured analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities paired with analytical thinking that enables you to troubleshoot issues efficiently across multiple systems.
  • Outstanding communication skills complemented by a collaborative mindset that fosters positive relationships across technical and non-technical teams alike.
  • Ability to contribute dependably both independently on assigned tasks as well as collaboratively within larger project groups.
