A leading global organisation is seeking a Product Manager in the chemical sector, based in Kuala Lumpur, to provide regional technical and commercial leadership within flame retardant technologies.
What you'll do:
As Product Manager – Chemical Industry in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of flame retardant technologies across Asia Pacific. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with diverse teams to translate advanced technical knowledge into practical solutions that meet customer requirements. You will partner with key stakeholders—including principals, customers, sales teams—to drive business development initiatives that expand the portfolio into new markets. By managing strategic partnerships and overseeing product commercialisation efforts from concept through execution, you will ensure sustainable growth while optimising profitability. - Provide regional technical and commercial leadership by acting as the subject matter expert in flame retardant technologies, formulation development, fire safety standards, regulatory compliance, and application engineering.
- Translate complex technical capabilities into clear customer value propositions and identify new business opportunities that align with organisational goals.
- Partner with principals, customers, and country sales teams to develop and commercialise flame retardant solutions tailored to specific applications and market needs.
- Expand into new applications and markets by leveraging your knowledge of flame retardants to accelerate portfolio growth throughout Asia Pacific.
- Lead the portfolio strategy for flame retardants including ATO, ATH, Synthetic MDH, Brucite, Zinc Borate, phosphorus-based and brominated products to ensure sustainable growth and margin expansion.
- Work closely with customers, principals, and sales teams to accelerate project qualification processes, facilitate solution adoption, and drive successful commercialisation across strategic accounts.
- Manage principal relationships through effective business planning, supplier engagement, product commercialisation initiatives, contract management, and long-term growth strategies.
- Monitor performance measures such as portfolio development & commercialisation progress, market expansion achievements, CM2 growth metrics for the flame retardants portfolio, and coverage optimisation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between technical innovation and commercial objectives while maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Support ongoing training opportunities for team members to foster a knowledgeable environment that encourages personal development.

- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Materials Science or related discipline is required for this position.
- Minimum 8-15 years of experience within flame retardants or related industries such as polymers, compounds or plastics is essential.
- Proven track record working with principals, compounders, OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), distributors or converters within the flame retardants value chain is highly desirable.
- Strong technical knowledge of flame retardant formulation development across various polymer systems including Polyolefins (PE/PP), EVA/XLPE/PVC/Engineering Plastics (PA/PBT/PET/PC-ABS), TPE/Rubber/Coatings is necessary.
- Ability to optimise fire performance alongside mechanical properties while ensuring processability cost efficiency and regulatory compliance is expected.
- Demonstrated techno-commercial capability to develop application-specific solutions leveraging market insights customer requirements product management expertise is vital.
- Experience driving innovation business development portfolio growth profitable market expansion across Asia Pacific is advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills enabling effective collaboration with internal teams external partners clients suppliers are important.
