The challenge

The client sought to build up operations in the Philippines, seeking various roles across the technology, HR, back office, and finance functions. However, aside from the need, the client had little to work with - being new to the market, the client sought out Robert Walters to facilitate their knowledge of the region and the potential it holds, while leveraging our expertise in hiring across key functions.

A key factor to the client’s confidence in us stemmed from prior success working with us, halfway across the globe in EMEA. Robert Walters was the client’s preferred MSP provider in the region, supporting their contingent hiring efforts in 13 countries.

Setting up the partnership

Given that this was the client’s first RPO partnership, our first priority was to get our client up to speed on the market they were about to operate in. Powered by our RW Insights talent analytics suite, we put forth a targeted frame of insights that the client could use to understand the roles required to establish an operational presence in the Philippines, while setting the foundations for informed, data-driven business decisions in the future.

We also identified that the client’s obscurity in the Philippines would impede effective recruitment efforts in the long term. With a focus to the future, we decided that the Project RPO implementation would need to involve an extensive employer branding strategy, building the brand’s reputation in-region from scratch. Our efforts here would eventually prove to deliver outsized benefits, especially towards another key client priority – growing an early careers talent pool through concerted campus hiring initiatives.

The solution

In line with the client’s urgent hiring needs, with an eye for long-term employer brand development, we designed a bespoke solution based off our Project RPO model. Here, Robert Walters can implement an effective hiring process within six weeks and find you the talent you need at the volume and speed you require, without adding headcount to your talent acquisition team.

This was managed by a highly efficient team of 3 onsite recruiters who handle end-to-end recruitment for shared services, back office, HR and finance roles in Mandaluyong, who also serve as chief SMEs and planners of adjacent campus hiring projects.

Key results

Consolidating our expertise hiring in various functions, we averaged a 45-day time to fill across all our requisitions, with an excellent 2:1 interview to offer ratio, consistently outperforming regional industry averages.

Fulfilling our capabilities as talent solution experts beyond volume hiring, we successfully navigated a hiring freeze alongside the client as well, continuing to put hours behind our employer brand growth. Beside building up their local careers page from scratch, our targeted campaigns performed to the number of 1,008,300 impressions in the first two months, with above-average clickthrough rates of up to 0.95%.

Our success has led to three extensions since the start of our partnership, along with an expansion within the client’s Malaysia operations, identifying candidates for data centre roles in Johor Bahru under a variant source-to-shortlist model, a testament to how our Project RPO solution’s flexibility can cater to every hiring need. We have also been called upon to serve as subject matter experts in the client’s global manpower planning efforts as they explore continued expansion within the Philippines and the greater APAC region.
