Paywatch is a fintech service provider that enables employees to access their earned salary before traditional fortnightly or monthly salary cycles. Since launching in 2020, the ambitious startup has scaled rapidly and it now has a base of over 500,000 serviceable employees throughout Asia.

The secret to such meteoric growth in just over two years? An invaluable asset: the right people.

When Paywatch set foot in Malaysia – their first market in Southeast Asia – finding the appropriate talent was a challenge. At the core of its philosophy was an unwavering focus on user needs. Alex Kim, Co-Founder and President at Paywatch, wanted to build a product for Asian employees from all walks of life. Each individual’s financial situation differed, depending on their industry or the region they were in, and the team needed to cater to these nuances.

To bring that vision to reality, Paywatch sought out exceptional tech talent, individuals who could blend strong technical expertise with the agile mindset required in a dynamic fintech startup. 

Talent started coming along when the right hiring partner came onboard. “What sets Robert Walters apart is their focus on building long-term relationships. As Paywatch grew, so did its hiring needs. Once the tech team fell into place, the attention shifted to amplifying the product’s reach. Hiring for sales and marketing positions kicked into full force, once again with the support of the Robert Walters team.

Powered by a solid talent pool, it didn’t take long before clients signed on with Paywatch. The team soon began serving some of Malaysia’s most beloved brands, from large, global food and beverage chains to homegrown grocery stores and bakeries.

Success may have come swiftly, but Alex and team have their sights fixed on the end goal. Plans are already underway for Paywatch to make financial wellness available for employees in two new Southeast Asian markets.

“Robert Walters has been our partner since 2021, and we’ll continue partnering with them as we expand into our new markets, Indonesia and the Philippines,” Alex asserts. “Without the team we’ve assembled together, we wouldn’t have tackled so many challenges and come to serve such a wide range of clients like we have today.”
