Legal Associate - TMT

Seeking a highly motivated and skilled Associate to join our dynamic and growing IP and Technology practice in Kuala Lumpur. Our team is at the forefront of legal and regulatory developments in one of Malaysia's fastest-evolving sectors. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in technology and digital innovation and be passionate about providing commercially-focused, pragmatic legal advice to a diverse range of clients.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Technology Transactions

Assist in the drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide range of TMT-related commercial agreements, including:

• Software licensing and IT procurement agreements

• Cloud services (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS) agreements

• Telecommunications infrastructure and network-sharing agreements

• E-commerce and digital services contracts

2. Technology, Media & Telecommunications Regulatory Advisory

Provide legal and regulatory advice to clients on Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) matters governed by Malaysian law, including:

• Intellectual property

• Data protection and privacy

• E-commerce

• Cybersecurity

• Consumer protection laws

• Content regulation and platform liability

• Emerging technologies, including AI

3. Transactional Support

Support M&A transactions involving, among other matters, intellectual property and data protection considerations.

4. Research & Analysis

Conduct in-depth legal research and stay abreast of new and proposed legislation, regulatory guidelines, and market trends in the TMT sector.

5. Client Management

Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted legal adviser and delivering high-quality legal services in a timely manner.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of post-qualifying experience

• Strong academic credentials, with a minimum Upper Second-Class law degree from a well-regarded university

• Strong drafting and negotiation skills

• Excellent command of written and spoken English; Chinese language skills would be an advantage

• Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision

• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with a commercial mindset

• Experience in a top-tier legal environment will be well regarded

• Strong analytical and issue-spotting skills, with sound judgement

• Committed and driven, with a strong sense of accountability
