A legal practice in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Partner or Senior Associate experienced in real-estate to lead land disputes, land acquisitions, land reference, land inquiries, eviction, trespass and related matters.

What you'll do:

As a Partner or Senior Associate, you will play a pivotal role advising land disputes and real estate law. This includes managing compensation claims for compulsory land acquisition, pursuing judicial reviews, securing injunctions and overseeing eviction proceedings.

The primary responsibilities are:

• Experienced working on high-value and complex land disputes and dealing with major developer clients in Malaysia and a strong interest in land-related matters and town planning strategies.
• Advise on compensation negotiations following compulsory acquisition by state entities (for infrastructure projects like MRT or highways)
• Draft correspondence on behalf of developer clients for applications to government authorities, including ratification requests to the Minister of Housing and Local Government.
• Advise on claims initiated at the Tribunal for Home Buyers Claim under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, ensuring clients receive clear guidance throughout proceedings.
• Lead judicial review proceedings challenging local authority decisions on planning permission applications for major development projects.

What you bring:

To excel as a Partner or Senior Associate focused on land disputes and real estate law in Kuala Lumpur, you will bring extensive experience navigating Malaysia’s property landscape.

You must possess the following:

• Hold a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree with a valid Practising Certificate recognised in Malaysia.
• Demonstrate proven experience handling high-value land disputes involving major developer clients within Malaysia’s legal framework.
• Bring experience negotiating settlements between landowners and developers—including drafting sale/purchase agreements or joint venture arrangements—and resolving disputes over compensation for compulsory acquisition or breach of contract.
• Show an ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments while nurturing long-term relationships with key stakeholders such as government agencies or industry bodies.
• Demonstrate sensitivity towards evolving regulations impacting land use planning strategies or strata management issues within Malaysia’s property sector.
• Exhibit excellent research abilities combined with strong drafting skills for preparing complex legal documents relevant to contracts and real estate transactions.
• Maintain a dependable work ethic marked by professionalism, reliability, responsiveness to client needs, and a positive attitude towards teamwork.
