Legal Associate (Restructuring & Insolvency)
Seeking a Legal Associate with minimum 3 years PQE with Restructuring & Insolvency background. The role involves advising financial institutions, insolvency practitioners, corporations, creditors, investors and other stakeholders on restructuring, insolvency and distressed matters. The successful candidate will work on complex, high-value domestic and cross-border transactions, proceedings and disputes alongside leading lawyers.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise clients on corporate restructuring, debt restructuring, insolvency, and business rescue matters;
- Act for financial institutions, creditors, debtors, insolvency practitioners, liquidators, receivers, judicial managers, and distressed companies in restructuring and insolvency engagements;
- Assist in corporate rescue exercises, including schemes of arrangement, restructuring plans, judicial management, and other restructuring mechanisms;
- Draft, review, and negotiate restructuring, financing, security, settlement, and insolvency-related documentation;
- Advise clients on the enforcement of security, debt recovery strategies, and creditors' rights;
- Support contentious insolvency matters, including winding-up proceedings, judicial management applications, receivership disputes, avoidance actions, and claims involving directors' duties;
- Conduct legal research and provide commercially practical advice on restructuring and insolvency issues;
- Work closely with lawyers across other practice groups on multi-disciplinary and cross-border matters;
- Manage client matters efficiently, maintain regular communication with clients, and support business development initiatives where appropriate.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent recognised law degree;
- Qualified as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya;
- Minimum Second Class Upper (2:1) honours or equivalent from a reputable local or international university;
- Minimum three (3) years post-qualification experience in restructuring & insolvency, dispute resolution, banking & finance, or a related practice area gained at a reputable law firm;
- Strong drafting, legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
- Sound knowledge of Malaysian restructuring and insolvency laws and procedures;
- Ability to manage multiple matters independently while working effectively within a collaborative team environment;
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client management skills; and
- High level of professionalism, commercial awareness, sound judgement, and commitment to delivering high-quality legal services.
