Employment Lawyer (Private Practice | Litigation / Advisory)

Our client is seeking a dedicated Employment Lawyer to join their highly regarded employment practice group. This role offers the opportunity to handle a range of employment and industrial relations disputes, from unfair dismissal claims to employment-related civil claims. You will also have the chance to support clients on pre-dispute advisory, providing practical, business-oriented advice on workplace issues.

What you'll do:

In this role, you will be deeply involved in representing employers in various types of disputes/advisory.

  • Represent employers in unfair dismissal claims at the Industrial Court, as well as handling related appeals and judicial reviews.
  • Represent employers in other types of employment disputes, including civil claims and labour office matters.
  • Provide pre-dispute advisory on matters relating to misconduct or poor performance, including advising on domestic inquiries and performance improvement plans.
  • Advise on allegations of constructive dismissal.
  • Advise clients on employment contracts and handbooks, and workplace policies.
  • Provide guidance on internal investigations, disciplinary and grievance procedures
  • Support clients on workforce restructuring, rightsizing, retrenchment and employee transfers.
  • Advise on employment issues arising from mergers, acquisitions and corporate exercises
  • Advise clients on compliance with Malaysian employment laws and regulations.

What you bring:

As an ideal candidate for the position, you bring a wealth of experience in handling various types of employment disputes.

  • Advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya with 2-5 years of experience in employment law
  • Strong understanding of Malaysian employment laws and regulation
  • Experience in handling unfair dismissal claims
  • Ability to provide practical, business-oriented advice
  • Experience in advising on domestic inquiries and performance improvement plans.
  • Strong problem-solving, excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage time, resources and multiple activities simultaneously
