Reporting directly to the President, you will provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of corporate and commercial matters, with exposure to diverse industries including property, education and financial services.
What you'll do:
- Provide comprehensive day-to-day legal advice to the group and its subsidiaries on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters, ensuring all business activities are legally sound.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements such as service contracts, supply arrangements, procurement deals, distribution agreements, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), leases, and other essential business documents.
- Advise internal stakeholders on contractual risks, legal obligations, and potential areas of exposure while offering practical solutions that align with commercial objectives.
- Support the group in corporate transactions including investments, restructuring initiatives, joint ventures, and other strategic projects as required by business needs.
- Review and provide guidance on property-related matters, leasing arrangements, financing structures, and general corporate affairs based on evolving requirements.
- Collaborate closely with external solicitors on litigation cases, dispute resolution processes, transactional work, and specialist legal matters when necessary.
- Assist with corporate governance responsibilities such as preparing board documentation, managing shareholder communications, and ensuring statutory compliance across entities.
- Monitor legislative changes and regulatory developments relevant to the group's operations; proactively advise the business on potential impacts or required actions.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of robust legal policies, streamlined processes, and standardised contract templates throughout the organisation.
- Identify emerging legal or commercial risks while balancing these considerations against broader business goals; undertake additional legal or corporate tasks as directed by management.
What you bring:
- Hold a recognised degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) with ideally 5–12 years of experience gained within reputable organisations or law firms.
- Demonstrate substantial experience in corporate and commercial law—including drafting complex contracts and negotiating favourable terms.
- Possess strong commercial acumen while delivering pragmatic legal advice tailored to operational realities.
- Show comfort working independently while effectively managing multiple concurrent matters spanning different business units or jurisdictions.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—enabling you to explain intricate legal concepts clearly to non-legal colleagues at all levels of seniority.
- Display mature judgement combined with a pragmatic approach
- Bring proven stakeholder management abilities; you can build trust-based relationships with senior executives as well as cross-functional teams throughout the organisation.
