Legal Counsel (Fashion)

A leading fashion retailer is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide legal guidance and support across Southeast Asia, covering commercial contracts, regulatory and compliance matters. The role will involve advising the business on legal risks, negotiating agreements and supporting key business initiatives. What you'll do:

• Negotiate, draft, and review various agreements—including lease and tenancy contracts for stores—ensuring minimal risk exposure while maintaining a pro-business perspective.
• Handle dispute resolution processes efficiently by settling disagreements with external parties such as landlords or government agencies.
• Conduct judicial enquiries, due diligence exercises, and comprehensive risk assessments to proactively advise on legal issues or disputes related to business expansion or consolidation
• Support tendering processes by assisting Sales Market Controllers and Account Managers in corporate matters including drafting governance policies and corporate documentation.
• Set up routines and implement effective ways of working for the execution, handling, and administration of contracts throughout the organisation.
• Provide support on marketplace and partnership opportunities for online or digital projects by offering regulatory guidance tailored to industry needs.
• Assist the data privacy team with regulatory advice to ensure compliance with relevant laws across multiple jurisdictions.
• Conduct research on legal issues involving cross-border elements in business or consumer law relevant to the retail sector.
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across departments to secure optimal legal and commercial outcomes for the organisation.
• Present complex legal requirements in clear terms to senior stakeholders internally and externally, guiding them towards practical solutions.

What you bring:

• 5–8 years of combined law firm and in-house legal experience, with admission to the Bar being an advantage.
• Strong ability to translate complex legal issues into practical business advice, communicate clearly and provide effective guidance to internal stakeholders.
• Strong risk assessment and decision-making skills, particularly when navigating ambiguity, tight timelines and urgent legal matters.
• Experience with international law firms or multinational corporations (MNCs) is preferred, with exposure to retail, leasing, landlord matters and government agencies being advantageous.
• Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse teams and cultures.
• A collaborative and proactive approach, including knowledge-sharing, supporting colleagues and responding promptly and effectively to urgent legal queries or disputes.
