A leading organisation in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Legal Manager to join their team in shaping legal, regulatory, and corporate compliance across a diverse group of companies. What you'll do:

As Legal Manager based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the organisation’s compliance with evolving legislation while maintaining robust internal controls.

  • Track and monitor new or amended legislation, developments in case law, and trends within the legal sector, ensuring the organisation remains compliant with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Review, update, and formulate policies, procedures, and guidelines relating to legal and regulatory compliance across the Group, providing expert advice on mitigation measures and corrective actions for identified non-compliances.
  • Support internal control and reporting matters by providing legal and compliance advice and implementing the necessary reporting protocols.
  • Draft, review, amend, negotiate, and finalise a wide range of contractual documents, including Letters of Appointment and Letters of Award.
  • Structure transactions in consultation with management, while coordinating with external legal counsel both locally and internationally.
  • Manage the legal formalities required for efficient execution of documents and conduct legal risk assessments of contractual arrangements, particularly those involving potential liabilities and exposures.
  • Manage assigned contracts by addressing queries relating to legal and contractual matters, as well as handling commercial real estate matters including tenancy agreements, lease negotiations, property-related contracts, and associated documentation.
  • Support dispute resolution matters by drafting relevant documents and notices, liaising with external counsel and counterparties, compiling case documentation, preparing case summaries and chronologies, and attending hearings where required.
  • Conduct legal research and provide insights to support informed decision-making across the organisation.
  • Develop and maintain template documents, recommend enhancements to existing templates, prepare internal papers for management and Board meetings, manage stakeholder relationships effectively, and ensure proper legal file management and documentation.

What you bring:

To excel as in this role, you bring proven experience navigating commercial contracts within corporate environment.

  • LLB (Hons) from a reputable university is essential; admission to the Malaysian Bar is preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of post-qualification experience (PQE), with strong experience in corporate and commercial contracts.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, with strong drafting and communication skills.
  • Strong legal acumen with the ability to analyse complex legal and commercial issues and provide practical, commercially sound advice, particularly on compliance and risk matters.
  • Proven experience in managing and liaising with external legal counsel, both locally and internationally.
  • Strong contract management and legal risk assessment capabilities, with the ability to identify potential liabilities and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across different levels of the organisation.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to translate legal developments into practical advice for the business.
  • Experience in dispute resolution, including drafting pleadings, notices, and other relevant legal documents, is an advantage.
