One of the leading telco companies is currently recruiting for a Deputy GC, Legal job for their dynamic Legal team based in their Kuala Lumpur HQ.

About the Deputy GC Legal Role:
Reporting to the GC Legal/CEO, you will lead the legal team and responsible for overseeing all legal affairs, compliance, and corporate governance matters within the organisation as well as provide strategic advice and guidance to ensure the company operates within the confines of the laws and the continuous growth and success of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, drafting, reviewing and/or negotiating commercial agreements, partnerships, and other legal documents
  • Rendering legal advice to senior management on a wide range of matters, e.g. contracts, regulatory compliance, legal risk management, intellectual property rights, litigation, etc. as well as developing and executing comprehensive legal strategies aligned with the company's goals and regulatory requirements
  • Identifying and assessing legal and regulatory risks, providing proactive guidance to mitigate potential risks to the company as well as developing and implementing risk management strategies to protect company's interests
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, establishing compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures as well as collaborating with relevant departments to conduct compliance training and implementing best practices throughout the organisation
  • Managing and/or overseeing governance matters, including board and board committee meetings, corporate policies, and disclosures as well as maintaining corporate records, filings, and governance documentation
  • Working closely with the board of directors and board committee members, ensuring adherence to corporate governance principles and regulatory requirements

To succeed in this Deputy GC, Legal role, you will need to have strong leadership and stakeholder management skills coupled with the ability to work effectively, and as a team player.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree in Law (LL.B) with at least 15 to 20 years of PQE. Prior experience in leading a legal team and from telco industry will be viewed favourably
  • Ability to work autonomously with high level practice management skills, sound commercial judgement, and to independently manage competing priorities and a wide range of matters and stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to be able to operate at a strategic level, as well as enthusiasm to be involved in day-to-day matters with strong analytical skills
