Regional Employment Counsel (Legal)

Our client is seeking seasonal Employment Counsel to join their team. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with labour laws across multiple jurisdictions, providing legal advice on employment-related issues, and fostering positive relationships with both employees and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a diverse and dynamic environment, spanning across East South Asia Pacific (“ESAP”) region.

What you'll do:

As an Employment Counsel, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our client's operations are compliant with labour laws across all jurisdictions. Key responsibilities :

  • Advise HR teams, managers, and leadership on labour law, social security, and employment-related legal matters.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with labour laws and regulations within the ESAP region.
  • Lead on-site HR audits on documentation and practices where needed to ensure compliance with local laws and company policies.
  • Draft, review, and advice on employment contracts, internal policies and other documents as needed for compliance and best practice.
  • Advise on workplace disputes and seek amicable resolutions.
  • Instruct external counsel to represent the company in legal proceedings.
  • Advise stakeholders on building and maintaining positive relationships with unions and employee representatives.
  • Lead or assist in collective bargaining negotiations on working conditions, wages, and other employment-related issues.
  • Organize training sessions on labour law and employee rights for HR teams, managers, and employees.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Employment Counsel position brings a wealth of experience in labour law. Key requirements are:

  • Qualified lawyer with a Law degree from an accredited institution and admission to the Bar.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience as a specialist employment lawyer, with in-house legal experience in a multinational organization viewed favorably.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Solutions-oriented mindset with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with the hospitality, tourism, or service industry is considered an asset
