Legal Counsel

We are seeking a qualified legal professional to join our Group Legal team as a Legal Counsel. The role will primarily support the Group's commercial, regulatory, compliance, and legal advisory needs in Malaysia, with exposure to regional Southeast Asia matters.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Contracts

• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of agreements, including:
  • Customer, supplier, and vendor agreements
  • Distribution, reseller, partnership, and collaboration agreements
  • Retail related agreements (store operations, concessions, promotions, merchandising)
  • Marketing, loyalty programs, advertising, influencer, sponsorship and campaign agreements
  • Technology, digital, platform, SaaS, and licensing agreements
  • NDAs, amendments, renewals, and statements of work
• Mainly for Malaysia specific but may include cross border SEA transactions when needed.

Regulatory, Compliance & Legal Advisory

• Advise on Malaysia legal and regulatory matters affecting commercial operations.
• Drive, lead, and support regional Southeast Asia compliance and advisory initiatives, in coordination with the Singapore legal team, assuming ownership when and where required by business need or risk profile.
• Provide legal guidance across:
  • Retail operations and retail compliance
  • Marketing, advertising, and digital activities
  • Product related compliance and customer facing documentation
• Coordinate with external counsel where required and manage advice efficiently.

Policies, Governance & Risk Management

• Draft, review and update internal policies, guidelines, and procedures.
• Support regional policy harmonisation and governance initiatives.
• Assist with compliance implementation and internal guidance.

Business Support

• Partner with commercial, retail, marketing, product, and operations teams.
• Provide clear, practical and commercially sound legal advice.
• Support regional projects and initiatives as required.
• Partner with the global legal team on global initiatives, policy harmonisation projects, cross-border transactions, and implementation of global legal and compliance frameworks at regional and local level.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer (Malaysia preferred; regional exposure is an advantage).
• min 7 years post qualification experience, ideally with both strong in house exposure and corporate law-firm experience.
• Solid experience in commercial contracts, regulatory advisory and compliance matters.
• Exposure to regional or cross border SEA work is a strong advantage
