Legal Counsel (12m Contract)

We seek a commercially driven Legal Counsel to provide practical, business-focused legal support across corporate, commercial, and litigation matters. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will advise internal stakeholders, support international teams across the US, Europe, and Asia, and demonstrate strong cross-cultural communication, sound legal judgement, independence, ownership, and the ability to manage complex legal matters in a global environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive legal support on commercial, corporate, and operational matters.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of commercial agreements, including supply agreements, service agreements, and other business contracts.
• Review and negotiate confidentiality agreements, including Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs).
• Provide legal guidance on intellectual property (IP) matters, including protection, licensing, and related commercial considerations.
• Support litigation matters and attend court proceedings where required.
• Manage legal risks and provide practical solutions aligned with business objectives.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Malaysian laws and regulations.
• Support regional legal matters involving jurisdictions such as China, Japan, South Korea, and Thailand when required.
• Collaborate with international business teams and external counsel on cross-border legal matters.
• Independently manage assigned legal matters while providing timely updates and recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Requirements

• Admitted lawyer with a valid Malaysian Bar qualification and/or Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP).
• Candidates with exceptional legal backgrounds and highly relevant experience may also be considered.
• Approximately 3 - 5 years of post-qualification legal experience, with the ability to independently manage legal matters.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience in Malaysian law.
• Experience working within a multinational or international business environment.
• Comfortable supporting international stakeholders, clients, and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Strong experience in commercial contract drafting, review, and negotiation.
• Experience handling litigation matters, including court attendance where required.
• Good understanding of intellectual property-related legal matters.
• Excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands, and provide commercially practical legal advice.
