What you'll do:

As a Junior Legal Counsel based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the legal function’s day-to-day activities.

The primary responsibilities are:

• Provide functional legal support on commercial matters for the global legal team, with particular focus on Southeast Asia.
• Draft, develop, and maintain contracts as well as other commercial agreements in line with group guidelines and stakeholder deadlines.
• Identify potential legal or commercial challenges in documentation and escalate these issues promptly to relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure contract compliance by utilising appropriate systems for products and services across multiple regions.
• Prepare bid submissions and contract exceptions lists for tender processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Guide business teams through contracting strategies, terms, conditions, and commercial considerations.
• Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, Commercial Services, and Client Services teams to implement products and services effectively.
• Support litigation processes and assist with human resources or industrial relations matters.
• Conduct thorough legal research on local regulations, providing commercially sound solutions when dealing with government authorities.
• Participate actively in scheduled training sessions and proactively seek out self-development opportunities to enhance your understanding of the business.

What you bring:

To excel as a Junior Legal Counsel in this role, your background should reflect robust academic credentials paired with practical experience handling commercial contracts within either private practice or corporate environments.

You must possess the following:

• LLB or equivalent qualification with 2-4 years of post-qualification experience gained either in private practice or within an in-house legal department of a multinational corporation
• Proven proficiency in written and spoken English; additional language skills such as Mandarin or Malay is highly regarded.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of contract law along with solid commercial awareness and business acumen relevant to supporting complex transactions.
• Exhibit excellent organisational abilities enabling efficient management of multiple tasks under tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
• Showcase outstanding analytical skills coupled with the ability to propose practical recommendations that align with risk management frameworks.
