Save job

A new Senior Manager Talent Development role has just been made available with one of the largest retail chain here in Malaysia.

A prominent retail organisation in Selangor is seeking a Senior Manager Talent Management and Development to lead the transformation of its talent agenda. This strategic yet hands-on role offers you the opportunity to build a structured talent development framework that will shape the future leadership of a large-scale, fast-paced business. You will be at the heart of connecting talent identification, succession planning, capability development and leadership growth, ensuring the organisation’s workforce is ready for both current and future challenges. With significant exposure to senior stakeholders, you will have the autonomy to design impactful programmes for high-potential employees and emerging leaders, accelerating their progression into key roles. The organisation values operational excellence and people development, providing a supportive environment where your expertise in talent management can truly make a difference. If you are passionate about nurturing talent and creating sustainable leadership pipelines, this is your chance to influence how talent is identified, developed and retained across a nationwide operation.

  • Take ownership of the organisation’s talent agenda with direct impact on leadership succession and internal mobility, shaping the future of a large-scale retail business.
  • Enjoy significant exposure to senior stakeholders and collaborate closely with business leaders, HR partners and Learning & Development teams to drive integrated talent initiatives.
  • Work fully on-site in Selangor within a dynamic environment that prioritises operational excellence, people development and building a sustainable leadership pipeline for continued growth.

What you'll do:

As Senior Manager Talent Management and Development, you will play an integral role in shaping how the organisation identifies, nurtures and advances its most promising employees. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve designing structured frameworks for talent identification, developing tailored programmes for high-potential individuals, collaborating with HR partners and business leaders to address capability gaps, and establishing clear pathways for internal mobility. You will lead key initiatives such as succession planning exercises, assessment centres, mentoring schemes and leadership development programmes while continuously reviewing their relevance in a fast-moving retail context. By tracking programme effectiveness through data-driven insights, you will ensure that every initiative contributes meaningfully to building a strong internal pipeline for critical positions. Your ability to connect business needs with practical people solutions will be essential in moving the organisation towards a more sustainable approach to developing its future leaders from within.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive Talent Management and Talent Development strategies that align with the organisation’s business objectives and growth plans.
  • Establish structured frameworks for talent identification, assessment, development and succession planning across all levels of the business.
  • Design and manage targeted programmes for high-potential employees, emerging leaders and critical talent pools to accelerate their readiness for future leadership roles.
  • Partner closely with business leaders and HR stakeholders to identify key talent, understand capability gaps and set individual development priorities that support organisational goals.
  • Create clear career pathways, competency frameworks and development structures that facilitate internal mobility and leadership progression throughout the company.
  • Review existing talent programmes regularly to ensure they remain practical, scalable and relevant within the fast-paced retail environment.
  • Lead initiatives such as talent reviews, succession planning exercises, assessment centres, leadership development programmes, mentoring/coaching schemes and individual development plans.
  • Establish robust methodologies and assessment criteria for identifying high-potential employees and future leaders within the organisation.
  • Collaborate with senior management to translate evolving business requirements into meaningful talent development initiatives that drive performance.
  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of all talent programmes using KPIs, analytics and programme outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.

What you bring:

To excel as Senior Manager Talent Management and Development in this leading retail organisation, you will bring extensive experience in human resources—particularly within Talent Management or Organisational Development—gained from large-scale environments such as retail or FMCG. Your proven ability to design structured frameworks for identifying high-potential employees sets you apart from those who simply administer existing programmes. You possess strong commercial acumen coupled with strategic thinking skills that enable you to translate business imperatives into actionable people solutions. Your interpersonal strengths allow you to collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders across diverse functions while your analytical capabilities empower you to leverage data-driven insights for continuous improvement. Fluency in Mandarin is highly valued given organisational communication needs. Above all, your commitment to nurturing talent through inclusive practices ensures that every employee has access to clear career pathways supported by robust competency frameworks.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or related discipline is required for this position.
  • 8–12 years of relevant HR experience with substantial exposure to Talent Management, Talent Development, Learning & Development or Organisational Development functions.
  • Proven track record managing talent programmes within large organisations operating in retail, consumer goods, FMCG, hospitality or other high-volume/multi-site environments.
  • Deep understanding of frameworks for talent identification, succession planning, leadership development and high-potential employee advancement.
  • Demonstrated experience designing structured talent programmes rather than solely administering existing ones.
  • Commercially astute with a strategic mindset capable of translating complex business needs into practical people development solutions.
  • Comfortable working with senior stakeholders across multiple functions; able to influence leaders at different levels through effective communication.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in using talent data and insights to inform decision-making processes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management abilities combined with programme management expertise; able to drive collaborative efforts across departments.
  • Mandarin-speaking candidates are preferred due to communication requirements with senior leadership; must be comfortable working fully on-site in Selangor without hybrid arrangements.
