This pivotal role is designed for someone who thrives on making a positive impact across diverse teams, from retail to office environments.

What you'll do:

As Assistant Manager, Human Resources based in Kuala Lumpur, you will be entrusted with overseeing comprehensive HR operations spanning both Malaysia and Singapore. Additionally, you will handle essential administrative tasks like updating policies, managing insurance claims, preparing reports for leadership review, maintaining accurate organisational charts, and contributing to workplace wellbeing initiatives. Success in this role means being proactive in building strong relationships at all levels of the organisation while delivering dependable support across every aspect of human resources.

  • Oversee end-to-end recruitment activities for both retail and office teams across Malaysia and Singapore, ensuring seamless onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Monitor talent market trends and regulatory developments to maintain up-to-date HR best practices while ensuring full compliance with local labour laws.
  • Build robust pipelines for key frontline retail positions by engaging proactively with potential candidates and nurturing relationships within the industry.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all employee enquiries, providing guidance on policies, benefits, and workplace matters to foster trust and open communication.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives including annual surveys and recreational activities aimed at enhancing morale and team cohesion.
  • Administer monthly payroll processing accurately for all staff members while managing yearly income tax deductions in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Facilitate annual appraisal processes and people reviews to support ongoing talent development and succession planning within the organisation.
  • Coordinate training needs analysis through performance reviews, organising approved learning programmes that address skill gaps across teams.
  • Partner with business leaders on HR strategy projects such as staffing reviews, talent acquisition plans, and annual budget preparation to meet organisational objectives.
  • Maintain up-to-date employee handbooks, administer medical insurance registrations and claims, prepare regular HR reports for retail operations, update organisational charts as needed, and support workplace health and safety programmes.

What you bring:

To excel as Assistant Manager, Human Resources you will bring proven experience gained from similar roles where you have managed end-to-end HR operations across multiple locations or regions.

  • At least five years of experience as an HR generalist equips you with broad exposure to various aspects of human resources management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Malaysia labour laws is essential; familiarity with Singapore regulations is highly advantageous for cross-border compliance.
  • Experience working within a retail environment enables you to understand the unique challenges faced by frontline staff as well as office teams.
  • The ability to adapt quickly in changing environments ensures resilience when responding to shifting priorities or new business requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills empower you to build rapport with employees at all levels while handling sensitive matters discreetly.
  • Proficiency navigating matrix organisations allows you to work effectively within complex reporting structures involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with SAP or Timesoft systems would be beneficial but is not mandatory; willingness to learn new technologies is valued.
  • Quarterly travel flexibility demonstrates your commitment to supporting teams regionally whenever required.
