Compensation & Benefits Manager (Financial Services)

Save job

A new Compensation & Benefits Manager has just been made available with a prominent Financial Services institution, reporting directly to the Head of HR.

An established international financial institution with a robust presence across Asia is seeking a talented Compensation and Benefits Manager to join its growing Malaysia operations in Kuala Lumpur. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to take ownership of the full spectrum of compensation and benefits activities, working within a professional, structured, and governance-driven environment that values people, sustainable business growth, and continuous improvement. You will play a pivotal role in shaping reward practices, ensuring they remain competitive, equitable, and compliant with both local regulations and global standards. The organisation offers exposure to senior stakeholders, regional HR teams, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on the employee experience while advancing your career within a supportive and collaborative setting.

  • Take charge of the entire compensation and benefits agenda for Malaysia, influencing policies that directly impact employee satisfaction and retention while supporting business objectives.
  • Work closely with senior HR leaders and regional teams, gaining valuable exposure to high-level decision-making processes and contributing to strategic projects across the organisation.
  • Enjoy a structured workplace that prioritises professional development, knowledge sharing, and opportunities for career progression within an internationally respected financial institution.

What you'll do:

As Compensation and Benefits Manager based in Kuala Lumpur, you will be entrusted with significant responsibility for developing frameworks that underpin the organisation’s approach to rewarding its employees. Your day-to-day work will involve collaborating closely with HR leadership to shape policies that reflect both local market realities and broader organisational goals. You will manage critical annual cycles such as salary reviews and bonuses from end-to-end—analysing data trends, preparing recommendations for leadership approval, overseeing implementation logistics—and ensure these processes run smoothly. Regularly engaging in market benchmarking will keep your finger on the pulse of industry trends so you can advise on competitive pay structures. You’ll also oversee employee benefits programmes by liaising with both internal teams and external vendors to deliver value-added offerings. Your expertise will be called upon when partnering with business leaders on sensitive matters like promotions or retention cases. Additionally, you’ll play a key role in workforce planning by providing analytical support for headcount budgets. Compliance is paramount; you’ll ensure all practices meet legal requirements while upholding rigorous governance standards. Through regular reporting to senior management—and participation in regional or global projects—you’ll help drive continuous improvement in reward practices.

  • Lead the overall Compensation and Benefits function for the Malaysia business by providing both strategic direction and hands-on operational support across all aspects of reward management.
  • Develop, review, and implement comprehensive compensation and benefits policies, frameworks, and processes that align with evolving business strategies and people priorities.
  • Manage annual salary reviews, bonus cycles, incentive schemes, including detailed budgeting, data analysis, recommendations to management, and seamless implementation of outcomes.
  • Conduct regular market benchmarking exercises and salary analyses to ensure remuneration packages are competitive for various employee groups while remaining aligned with industry standards.
  • Provide expert insights and recommendations on salary structures, remuneration positioning, allowances, incentives, and other reward-related matters to senior management.
  • Oversee the design, administration, and review of employee benefits programmes by collaborating with internal stakeholders as well as external service providers.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners and business leaders on compensation matters related to new hires, promotions, internal movements, retention cases, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
  • Support workforce cost planning initiatives through detailed compensation analysis that informs headcount budgeting and annual manpower planning processes.
  • Ensure all compensation and benefits practices comply fully with Malaysian employment legislation, regulatory requirements, as well as internal governance standards.
  • Prepare regular reports, dashboards, and analytical presentations on compensation trends for senior management while maintaining confidentiality at all times.

What you bring:

To excel as Compensation and Benefits Manager in this international financial institution’s Malaysia operations you will bring substantial expertise gained from similar roles within banking or other regulated sectors. Your academic background should include a degree relevant to human resources or finance disciplines. You have built up several years’ hands-on experience managing total rewards functions—covering everything from policy development through to annual review cycles—while demonstrating deep familiarity with Malaysian employment law. Your analytical mindset enables you to translate complex data into practical solutions that support business needs. Discretion is second nature when dealing with sensitive information; your interpersonal skills allow you to build rapport at all levels from junior staff through to executive leadership. Advanced Excel capabilities are essential given the data-driven nature of this role; any additional experience using HRIS platforms will further strengthen your profile. Regional exposure—especially if you’ve worked on cross-border projects—will set you apart as someone who can navigate both local nuances and global frameworks effectively.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or a related discipline is required for this position.
  • A minimum of 6–8 years’ relevant experience in Compensation & Benefits or Total Rewards roles within banking or highly regulated industries is essential.
  • Demonstrated understanding of salary structures, incentive schemes design/administration, annual compensation reviews processes as well as benefits management best practices is necessary.
  • In-depth knowledge of Malaysian employment legislation along with statutory requirements relating to employee remuneration/benefits is expected.
  • Exceptional analytical skills combined with strong numerical ability are needed to interpret complex compensation data sets into actionable recommendations.
  • Proven experience working effectively with senior stakeholders while handling confidential information discreetly is vital for success in this role.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel/data analysis tools; familiarity with HRIS or compensation-related systems would be advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Excellent communication skills coupled with stakeholder management abilities are important for building trust across different levels of the organisation.
  • Comfort operating within structured environments where governance/compliance are prioritised alongside efficiency improvements is required.
  • Regional or multinational experience managing compensation frameworks will be considered highly beneficial.
