Chemist - R&D & Product Innovation
A leading organisation in the water treatment sector is seeking a Chemist (R&D & Product Innovation) to join their team in Sungai Buloh. This role offers you the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on water sanitation and quality, supporting both technical innovation and product development. You will be part of a supportive network that values creativity, knowledge sharing, and collaboration across departments and industries.
What you'll do:
As a Chemist (R&D & Product Innovation) based in Sungai Buloh, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the organisation’s mission to deliver high-quality water sanitation solutions. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve providing expert technical support to customers on chemical products used in water treatment. You will lead research and development efforts by conducting trials on new formulations and collaborating with external laboratories or institutions for joint research projects. Supporting production teams with your technical expertise ensures that products meet stringent quality standards. Project management duties include overseeing the introduction of new chemical products, optimising production processes, preparing bills of materials, and documenting technical specifications. You will conceptualise innovative solutions by drawing inspiration from other industries such as food science or agriculture—bringing fresh perspectives into water treatment applications. Performance optimisation of existing formulas is key; you’ll enhance product stability, concentration, or cost-effectiveness through detailed analysis. Your research extends beyond traditional applications like swimming pools to industrial wastewater treatment, cooling towers, agriculture, and more. Collaboration with Chemical Engineers is essential to ensure that lab-developed inventions are scalable for manufacturing. Additionally, you’ll assist in preparing technical data for product registration locally and internationally while ensuring all formulations adhere to global safety standards. Success in this role requires a blend of scientific rigour, creativity, project management skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Provide comprehensive technical support on chemicals and chemical products for various aspects of water treatment, particularly focusing on water sanitation solutions for customers.
- Conduct research and development activities by designing and executing trials on new and existing chemical products related to water treatment, collaborating with independent laboratories or institutions for joint research initiatives.
- Support production teams and quality control processes by offering expert guidance on technical aspects of the chemical line and products, ensuring consistent performance and compliance with standards.
- Manage projects involving chemical products, including overseeing introduction, implementation, bill of materials preparation, production process optimisation, and technical specification documentation.
- Conceptualise and formulate innovative new chemical products from scratch, applying creative thinking from other industries such as food science, agriculture, or pharmaceuticals into water treatment applications.
- Optimise performance of existing formulas by enhancing stability, concentration, or cost-effectiveness through rigorous testing and analysis.
- Explore broad application research beyond swimming pools, investigating uses in industrial wastewater treatment, cooling towers, agricultural settings, and more.
- Collaborate closely with Chemical Engineers to ensure laboratory inventions can be manufactured at scale without compromising quality or safety.
- Assist in preparing technical data required for product registrations both locally and internationally, supporting commercialisation efforts as needed.
- Ensure all formulations are designed with global safety standards (GHS/SDS) in mind, maintaining compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Chemist (R&D & Product Innovation) position brings substantial experience from either the water treatment industry or laboratory settings. Your academic credentials should include at least a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemical Science; advanced degrees such as MSc or PhD in Chemistry are highly regarded. Your excellent command of English allows you to communicate seamlessly within an international workplace. Demonstrated success in inventing new products—whether through patents or market launches—sets you apart as someone who thrives on creativity and innovation. A robust foundation in inorganic and organic chemistry equips you to tackle complex challenges across diverse applications such as industrial wastewater treatment or agricultural solutions. While direct experience with regulatory frameworks like APVMA or SPAN/Halal is beneficial, your openness to learning these requirements reflects adaptability. Your ability to collaborate closely with colleagues—including Chemical Engineers—ensures that laboratory innovations transition smoothly into scalable manufacturing processes. Experience supporting production operations and quality control highlights your reliability within team environments. Preparing technical data for product registrations further underscores your meticulous approach towards compliance. In this role, your interpersonal skills foster positive relationships across departments while your commitment to continuous improvement drives both personal growth and organisational success.
- Minimum three years’ work experience in water treatment industries or laboratory environments is required for this role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemical Science is mandatory; candidates holding BSc, MSc or PhD qualifications in Chemistry are highly encouraged to apply.
- Excellent command of English is essential for effective communication within an international work environment.
- A proven track record of creating products—such as patents granted or successful product launches—is highly desirable; candidates with an 'Inventor' mindset will excel here.
- Strong background in inorganic and organic chemistry is necessary; experience specifically within water treatment is preferred but not essential if you bring transferable skills from FMCG, agriculture or pharmaceutical sectors.
- Broad chemical knowledge enables you to conceptualise innovative solutions across multiple applications including industrial wastewater treatment and agriculture.
- Familiarity with Australian (APVMA) or Asian (SPAN/Halal) regulatory landscapes is advantageous but not mandatory; willingness to learn regulatory requirements is important.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Chemical Engineers ensures successful scaling of laboratory inventions into manufacturable products.
- Experience supporting production processes and quality control measures demonstrates your dependability within operational settings.
- Competence in preparing technical data for product registrations (local/international) showcases your attention to detail regarding compliance.
