What you'll do:
As an Industrial Engineer in Penang, you’ll be energising operational excellence through impactful Lean Manufacturing initiatives. Your daily routine will see you providing expert technical support as teams embark on Kaizen projects aimed at continuous improvement. You’ll deliver lively training sessions on lean methodologies while actively refining existing tools and introducing innovative solutions tailored to evolving business needs. By promoting a culture of waste elimination across all areas—including transactional functions—you’ll help embed best practices throughout the organisation. Your collaboration with R&D, process development, equipment engineering, EH&S departments, facilities teams, and production units ensures that every aspect of product design, process optimisation, layout planning, and ergonomic assessment is aligned with corporate guidelines. Maintaining accurate databases of standard times and IE tools will be crucial for supporting increased volume or new product introductions. Your ability to prepare detailed engineering data presentations further strengthens your impact on strategic decision-making.

- Collaborate closely with R&D, process development, and equipment engineering groups during early stages of product, process, and equipment development to ensure ergonomic design and 'Born Lean' principles are applied.
- Connect Lean activities so the entire value stream is addressed for maximum benefit from improvement efforts.
- Work alongside EH&S departments to assess ergonomic improvements resulting from Lean activities and align them with continuous improvement goals related to health, safety, and environment.
- Maintain an up-to-date database populated with industrial engineering tools for easy reference by relevant stakeholders.
- Review requests for changes to facility layouts, propose summary options for approval, collaborate with facilities departments and production teams on final layout drawings, and implement plans effectively.

Your proven track record as an Industrial Engineer means you bring deep expertise in process optimisation within high-tech manufacturing environments such as semiconductors or electronics. You’re skilled at time study methods—especially predetermined MTM—and excel at capacity planning and line balancing using industry-standard tools like AutoCAD. Your proficiency extends into simulation platforms such as Flexsim or Arena which allow you to model complex production flows accurately. With strong analytical skills honed through extensive use of Excel—and ideally PowerBI—you can present actionable insights via dashboards that inform strategic decisions. Your practical experience implementing Lean Manufacturing principles alongside Six Sigma methodologies demonstrates your commitment to operational excellence. You possess exceptional communication abilities that enable you to train colleagues effectively while fostering inter-personal connections across departments. Having worked directly in production settings gives you valuable perspective on workforce planning challenges; your collaborative approach supports continuous improvement efforts that benefit both manufacturing operations and support functions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required for this position as it forms the foundation for understanding complex manufacturing processes.
- A minimum of three years’ working experience in industrial engineering roles within semiconductor, electronics or EMS industries is essential for success.
- At least three years’ hands-on experience specifically in industrial engineering activities such as time study (predetermined MTM), capacity planning, line balancing, layout planning using AutoCAD software is mandatory.
- Proficiency in simulation tools such as Flexsim or Arena is highly desirable as it enhances your ability to model production scenarios effectively.
- Advanced skills in Excel are preferred for managing data analysis tasks; familiarity with PowerBI dashboards would be advantageous for visualising key metrics.
- Demonstrated experience in operational excellence initiatives including Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies is expected.
- Practical knowledge of work measurement techniques for establishing standard times is necessary for optimising productivity.
