This opportunity offers you the chance to work on moderately complex manufacturing and test equipment, collaborating with talented professionals across multiple disciplines. You will be empowered to contribute your expertise in PLC control systems, mechanical design, and automation, while enjoying a supportive environment that values knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and professional growth. The company is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where your skills are recognised and nurtured through flexible working opportunities, ongoing training, and generous pension contributions. If you are passionate about engineering excellence and want to make a meaningful impact in healthcare technology, this role provides the perfect platform for you to thrive.

  • Work alongside knowledgeable engineers and technicians in a collaborative setting focused on developing advanced medical device equipment.
  • Enjoy flexible working opportunities, generous pension contributions, and access to training programmes designed to support your professional growth.
  • Be part of a supportive leadership team that encourages continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and inclusivity throughout all project phases.

What you'll do:

As an Equipment Engineer based in Penang, you will be responsible for driving the development of manufacturing equipment used in medical device production. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to create robust specifications for new tools and machinery. You will leverage your expertise in PLC control systems—particularly Allen Bradley—to evaluate concepts, generate mechanical designs using CAD software, procure necessary parts, and select optimal materials. Throughout each project phase, you will coordinate efforts across departments to ensure timely completion of deliverables while maintaining meticulous documentation. You will also lead teams through assembly and debugging processes, design pneumatic/hydraulic systems for automation solutions, assist with electrical controls integration, support installation/qualification activities, manage spares usage efficiently, oversee incident management related to equipment failures, generate performance metrics on downtime/costs/improvements/maintenance compliance/resource allocation weekly/monthly, enhance maintenance technician skills through training documents (TSG), and continuously improve operational procedures. Success in this role requires strong collaboration skills within a cross-functional environment as well as a commitment to quality standards set by FDA/QSR regulations.

  • Participate as a valued member of project teams to develop clear specifications for new equipment and tooling used in medical device manufacturing.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of innovative concepts and provide formal estimates for mechanical designs, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Create detailed mechanical designs and drawings using CAD modelling software according to departmental standards and procedures.
  • Procure standard machine parts as well as custom fabricated tooling, carefully selecting materials and coatings for automated equipment.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and document project designs, estimates, costs, and progress throughout execution to ensure successful delivery.
  • Complete project deliverables while monitoring schedules and scope changes so that the team can consistently meet delivery requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation to communicate project status, results, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams including designers, engineers, and technicians during the design, assembly, debugging, and upgrading of equipment.
  • Design pneumatic and hydraulic systems by specifying appropriate components for use in automated manufacturing environments.
  • Assist in defining electrical component requirements for automated control systems while supporting installation, qualification processes, and managing spares usage.
