Quality Manager
A leading manufacturing organisation in Penang is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Quality Manager to champion quality excellence across their dynamic operation.
This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to lead a committed QA/QC team, ensuring that every product meets the highest standards and exceeds customer expectations. You will play a crucial part in maintaining ISO 9001 compliance, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support sustainable growth and operational success. The company values your attention to detail, your ability to nurture team development, and your commitment to fostering a culture of quality throughout the business. With a supportive environment that encourages professional growth and recognises your contributions, this is an outstanding opportunity for someone passionate about making a tangible impact on both products and people.
- Take ownership of quality management across a well-established manufacturing site, where your expertise will directly influence product excellence and customer satisfaction.
- Enjoy the chance to collaborate with diverse teams, drive process improvements using Six Sigma and Lean methodologies, and contribute to the ongoing success of a forward-thinking organisation.
- Benefit from a workplace that values teamwork, provides opportunities for professional development, and supports your career progression within a thriving industry.
What you'll do:
As a Quality Manager based in Penang, you will be entrusted with overseeing all aspects of quality assurance and control within a busy manufacturing environment. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve guiding your team through complex challenges while upholding rigorous standards at every step of the production process. You will work closely with colleagues from various departments to identify areas for improvement, implement robust systems that guarantee compliance with international standards such as ISO 9001, and ensure that both raw materials and finished products meet or exceed expectations. By leveraging your experience in APQP planning, PPAP completion, auditing processes, statistical analysis, and supplier performance review, you will play an instrumental role in supporting new product launches as well as ongoing operations. Your leadership will be key in nurturing talent within your department through training initiatives focused on quality awareness and best practices. Ultimately, your efforts will help sustain operational excellence while driving continuous improvement initiatives that benefit both customers and the wider business.
- Lead and manage the Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams across the facility, ensuring all members are aligned with organisational goals and best practices.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to implement quality improvement projects that enhance operational efficiency and product reliability.
- Plan, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in strict accordance with ISO 9001 requirements, including procedure setup and regular reviews.
- Oversee management reviews to ensure robust processes and procedures are established and maintained throughout the organisation.
- Coordinate and support internal, customer, and regulatory audits by preparing documentation, facilitating audit activities, and addressing findings promptly.
- Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) for new products, ensuring all quality requirements are met from design through production.
- Manage Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) completion in response to customer requests, guaranteeing timely delivery of compliant products.
- Conduct sample audits for in-house manufactured parts as well as quality audits for purchased components, while managing measuring instrument calibration and maintenance.
- Chair the Material Review Board for unqualified parts in inventory, ensuring effective disposition decisions are made swiftly.
- Support the design and manufacturing phases of product development by providing expert input on quality considerations during each stage.
What you bring:
To excel as a Quality Manager in this respected manufacturing setting, you will bring substantial hands-on experience gained from similar roles where you have overseen both people management responsibilities and technical quality functions. Your background should include formal qualifications in engineering disciplines—ideally mechanical engineering—and significant exposure to implementing recognised standards such as ISO 9001 within complex operations. You are adept at using statistical software packages like MiniTab for data-driven decision-making while also being comfortable navigating ERP/MRP platforms integral to modern manufacturing environments. Your approach combines analytical rigour with empathy: you understand how to motivate teams towards shared objectives while remaining sensitive to individual needs. Experience running audits—both internally and externally—will serve you well when liaising with customers or regulatory bodies. Additionally, your ability to interpret engineering drawings ensures that you can provide valuable input during product development cycles. If you have previously worked within motor manufacturing or similar sectors this would further strengthen your application; however what matters most is your passion for fostering continuous improvement through collaborative effort.
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered favourably.
- At least six years of direct experience working in quality roles within a manufacturing environment coupled with four or more years spent managing teams or leading projects.
- Proficiency in auditing quality systems with strong knowledge of ISO 9001 standards; familiarity with TS16949 is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated expertise applying Six Sigma principles alongside Lean manufacturing methodologies to deliver measurable improvements.
- Advanced skills using statistical tools such as MiniTab along with experience conducting Statistical Process Control (SPC) analyses; comfort working with ERP/MRP systems is essential.
- Excellent computer literacy including advanced use of Excel for data analysis and PowerPoint for reporting purposes.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills enabling you to collaborate effectively across all levels of an organisation while nurturing team spirit among direct reports.
- Proven track record supporting design-for-quality during product development phases as well as hands-on experience using inspection tools for mechanical components.
- Ability to read engineering drawings accurately; strong mechanical aptitude is required for success in this position.
- Experience within motor manufacturing environments would be advantageous but not mandatory; fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
